Well.......There are more people in big cities, so I would suppose your odds are better.....history has proved that....

Okay, so I'm supposed to bug out and leave my home, food supplies, water sources, BED, and everything I own so I can live off the land, sleep in the dirt, filter and boil questionable water and live in a tent...for an indefinite period of time? If my house burns down, fine. Otherwise, doesn't it make better sense to prepare for the worst in a familiar surrounding?

I had lunch in this restaurant, the one with the blue roof, last October 28th., as Sandy headed toward New England. I was there on the first day it reopened after it was damaged in a previous hurricane, so I thought it fitting that I be there on the last day it may be standing.
We had lunch amid the sounds of drills screwing plywood over the windows. The food was awesome, as always.

You are absolutely correct Ken,
I will put my place up for sale tomorrow and move to the east coast, preferably to Mass. or NYC.
I'll have to stop carrying my gun in the car.
I'll have to give up my CCW.
My paid for house
My garden
probably both my vehicles
I'll have to give up my self sufficiency
My property
and my self respect
and I will never see another 440z cola.
But you are the lawyer and have this all rationalized out, so I must be wrong, and I need to move somewhere so I can give up everything I hold of value, my piece of mind and the sound of crickets and frogs in the back yard.
Thanks for setting me straight.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

I can understand that many people find urban life attractive or must live there for their work or access to things like medical services. Personally, I can not stand urban living and so I looked for a job in a rural area. I live in a small town 12 miles from a good hospital, with a good university 8 miles away. I might not have made as high a salary but it was the life style that I wanted to live. I have lived in the suburbs of Detroit and hated every day of that period of my working career. As soon as I could retire, I moved back to the rural area on Lake Superiors south shore. Different strokes for different folks! I am where many people dream of "bugging out to".
That pretty much sums it up, Professor. Live, and let live.
If we all wanted to be in the same place, we wouldn't have small towns and rural areas. And Kyrat would be even less happy than he is now.
We all do what we gotta do to make a living and get some pleasure out of life. As long as we don't cramp each others' style, I don't see what the big deal is.
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?
Good Godamighty, Kyrat!!! Didn't YOU just start that first, right here?!
Why don't you just come right out and tell us what ills your butt? There's all this deep seated resntment coming out of somewhere and missdirected at a handful of us just trying to make a living the best way we know how.
kyrat, I seem to recall that it was YOU who first insulted us "addicts," remember? And then you suggested that you live in the "place the rest of us would bug out to." I merely pointed out all of the hazards that YOU face in your location. THAT'S WHEN YOU CHANGED THE SUBJECT. I'm sorry if you prefer to not have your delusions challenged with FACTS AND REALITY.
You're the guy who has regularly demeaned many of us because of where we live, in a number of threads in the Forums. You constantly ridicule us because, unlike you, we don't live in the "Kentucky Blue Grass Region, the Center of the Universe." There are nice ways to say things and there are insulting ways to say things. You almost invariably choose the insulting way.
I've generally ignored your attitude because you really aren't worth responding to when you choose to ridicule and demean others.
Do me a favor, okay? Don't pull the "ignorant hillbilly" crap with me. You're not a dummy, but you're no genius either. Regardless, I don't tolerate disingenuous or insulting people.
You actually post some good stuff once in a while. Unfortunately, you also post stuff that makes me think of you as someone who sits in front of a keyboard, probably half-drunk, trying to make the rest of us feel as miserable about our lives as you do about yours.

BENESSE, I'm gonna' take typing lessons so that I can type as fast as you do. Either that, or I hire another secretary that posts as I dictate, LOL.

I live in both worlds. A rural home but, I work mostly in the north east.
I can see kyrats point of view about having a rural home that is not in a target zone for the zombies.
I've also given a considerable amount of thought about an evac from a populated north east area with almost zero resources.
I have several contingency plans.
I believe that would be akin to the house burning down. some people think of bugging out as something you do when society collapses, the power goes, water isn't running, etc. I see bugging out as something you have to do when you cannot live in your house.
BTW...JERSEY? Wasnt' that place always a natural disaster?

Well in my opinion the first priority is living and basic survival of ones financial needs, and if living in a city is required for that, so be it. I would not expect anyone to move to the country if they can't make a living there.
But I do beleive that if the Chit ever really hits the fan, the big cities will be the first point of chaos, it only makes sense! I feel that I am lucky to be able to live in the country, and still make a good living but I also realise that everybody can't do that.
It is very easy for country people to think living in the big city is crazy, but once a person has integrated their entire life in a city, I would imnagine it would be hard to just throw it all away and move to the country.
So I for one do not think city dwellers are stupid, but it's definately not for me! So now in Kyratts case, he has lived in a rural environment for a long time, and worked hard for his place in the country. When you are isolated like that, you get very opinionated and could care less what anybody thinks, and I totally understand that. Being that he is retired, and in the woods alone a lot of the time, he has earned the right to be a woodland Crumudgeon, and would help any one of us if we wondered up to his place starving and needing water if he didn't shoot us first.
I would yell out my user name on this forum for several minutes before approaching his house so he knows who you are. I would do the same for any of you, but just call me before you drop by.
I think every city dweller needs a friend in the country just in case, and maybe this forum will help bring that together as long as we understand each others trivialities!
