What are some "must haves" for my cabin in the woods?

Thank you Mark Levin and Andrew Wilkow for being our voiceswww.marklevinshow.com
Not sure exactly what you're asking for. First thing that came to mind was a roof. Probably not what you're looking for. Do you mean...near a water source? or wood stove?
Same stuff you need to live at home only a little less on the luxury items.

to fight... he'll just kill you.

What are you looking for? If it is things to make life easier, light, heat, and water, not neccesarily in that order.

Mine has chairs a loft and creek rock floors. We're making benches fences tables looms and a bunch of stuff that you would find at an indian camp. It makes it comforting. Mulch from wood chips( from notching) can be put out. A nice door is good too.

What is the purpose of the cabin?
Recreational use or full time living?
Our tiny cabin started out as a shell of a poorly built structure with out two walls completed, just tar paper on unevenly spaced studs. Plastic covering the window openings.
During escrow the place was totally ripped off, including the shower stall, plywood floor, wood heating and cook stove, propane stove and the intruders left a ton of trash.
After a lot of hard work the trash was hauled away and the walls finished.
The water source is a leased spring adjacent to the property from the forest service.
The former owners never laid all the pipe they had bought left laying around in the berry bushes.
So the water line was put in as well as a filter system.
Then the out house was dug.
Windows purchased cheaply at an auction were the next to go in.
The plywood we laid was covered with inexpensive flooring and we built a deck around two sides.
Then we put in a propane stove and water heater, a micro hydro electric system, and moved in.
It took about five years of part time working on it to make it snug for winter.
We did have to deal with varmints (bears and the two legged kind) who wanted in to the cabin.
Now ten years later we have the garden and orchard in and have survived a very dangerous wild land fire that threatened our home in 08.
We finally put in a septic system after two years of very deep snow. Walking out to the out house in deep snow is a pain and the ease of indoor plumbing is just grand as you get up in years.
We finally put in our above ground root cellar with a pantry above it. The soil is so rocky here we could not afford to hire out for the labor to dig into the mountain.
Zombie post, back from the dead.
Good post though Trident.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.
Seems to be the best short answer I have ever seen......Thanks for posting.
PS, Most any women like indoor plumbing........just saying.
After 12 years of a small camper parked on the land (the orginal "Place")....and was cabin/house time.......DW says," Build or do what you want....but I want an indoor toilet.....Got it"?
Correct answer...."Yes dear"

I keep two spare well pumps, a bunch of diesel fuel, some gasoline, alot of propane. Basically, you should probably have at least two of everything.
