    Default That Won't Work!

    Mythbusters on a smaller scale!

How many widespread myths about firearms have you tried and proved were bogus?
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

I can't say that many have occurred to me on my own. Now how can we test the ultimate zombie apocalypse cartridge?

    Cool Well, since you asked...

The one where I can fire a hundred or so rounds out of a pistol with a capacity up to 15 rounds without reloading, or that I can fire semi-auto bursts from a bolt-action rifle...hooray for Hollywood!....

    How many?....What are they?

Few I heard that kinda grate me are just quotes:
...22 lr will kill anything on the on the planet....While it my be true, highly unlikely.

...It's all about shot placement....That maybe true as well, but only off a bench rest.

...Sight picture....Yeah right, again off a bench maybe, running animal different story.....You need to use the "Force", Luke.

..FMJ bullets pref thru, giving you double the blood trail....This has to be the dumbest statement I ever heard.....If your shot was true, and using the proper "tool" for the job, correct caliber, your game should be "Dead right there".(DRT)
.....and of course....The Judge .45/.410, best all around do every thing fire arm....Just doesn't do anything well.

    OK done now.

    WHAT?, What?....that's not true?.......Can't be.....

You buy a Mosin Nagant, for $49 bucks (yeah right, not since 1973)....whine about the bore being dark, how long it is, learn cool stuff like "slugging the bore", which doesn't really matter as you can't do much about it anyway)....trigger sucks, safety (what safety?) sucks, wood sucks, how long it is, hard to mount a scope on it with out a lot of gyrations, how long it is,....

Soooo spend a bunch a money on cutting it down, new trigger group or mod, bolt is made to work with heavy mittens, work it like you are mad at it, cause after a few rounds the cheapo steel cases start sticking, and you really are mad at it, bend or mod the bolt, learn to not pinch you hand while cleaning all the cosmoline (never get it all out) taking it apart and maybe getting it back togeather.....Whew!

Now you have a $500 buck Mosin Nagant that still looks like it was hacked out of a railroad rail with an ax, smoothed on a rock, wood from grampa Ivan's wood pile.......shoots the same way as the $49 buck version (yeah I know, everybody except me bought one for "case price, when they were 12 years old).....and is a Bic 30-06......(shoots about the same)

You catch the "bug", end up with 13 of them, complete with all the pouches, bayonets, oil bottles, screw drivers, wrenchs, slings....have to buy a another gun safe ...cheapo, as no one would bother stealing one...leave it out in the open for theives, and after they open it , just move on....Nothing valuable here.

Now on the other hand...shooting 1963 surplus ammo in the M38 carbine (short, or your cut down Bubba rifle), a dusk......Fire and Smoke, and Recoil (Oh yeah, It Kicks...It's a real rifle)......Bhohahaha....Priceless....Everyone should have a dozen or so.

I have very definite opinions on the MN, as most here know.

    1. You never put more into the mods than the rifle cost.

    2. You should limit ownership to roughly the same number of them that you have trucks for them to live in.

    3. You never name a MN rifle and if you do it should not be Ivan, Boris or Natasha.

All of which reminds me of that other great survival gun myth, promoted mostly by urban dwellers that never shoot actual critters, "The .22 is the best all around survival gun."

How about that potato on the end of the muzzle of your .22 thing? Anybody tried that one?
If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Nope, ,,,,did try the baby bottle nipple with a X cut into it...results were...ah, so, so.

How about the water bottle 'patch catcher"?

    Works on two conditions.

    1. pm sent
    2. pm sent

It does not require a 2 liter either, a 20 oz. will do.

Doesn't require the patch catcher adapter either!

Not that I would know or have tried it or anything....that would be illegal and I have great respect for the letter and intent of the law.

Which brings up a point for Ken to research; Does the possession of a soda bottle in the kitchen, a pack of steel wool in the shop and a roll of duct tape in the toolbox constitute the ownership of a silencer?

    What?...... cleaning patches are illegal?

OK here one.....Grampa's brought home (fill in the blank) from WW (fill in the blank), taken off a dead (file in the blank) officer can hit a running deer at 1/2 a mile....It's magic.

Hammers work better for tacks.....bullets seem to make holes in stuff.

TV shooters (swamp people) seem to be right handed and left handed all at the same time.......

I have never tried to prove or disprove any myths or legends, but I am constantly amazed at how many "tack drivers" live on the internet.

Myth: It is wise to break in the barrel of a new gun cleaning after every shot for the first 20 rounds, then every 15 rounds thereafter
