Breakfast Conversation and a Question about .45's

You let go a Colt CC? In MA??? (for you guys in free states, Colt has refused to sell in MA, for years.)
I saw one last year for over $3k at a gun show. One pops up every once in a while at 4-Seasons but not for long.

I had a Smith 1911ES in 45. Still only a 7+1. Scantium frame. "Airweight." Kicked like a mule. Would eat anything though and spot on with the 4.5" barrel at 50'
It just wasn't fun to shoot. It was strictly a carry pistol.

After several years of use and study, the .40 simply hasn't met original expectations for both performance and stopping power. I'm seriously thinking about dumping both of my .9 mm's and my .40 in favor of a couple of .45's. I really liked the Colt Combat Commander I once owned. Thinking about another Combat Commander and something much smaller for everyday concealed carry.

I'm open to suggestions on the smaller model. The smallest and lightest RELIABLE .45 available with a 10 round capacity. Your thoughts, my friends?

Look at Kimber. They make a real nice 1911 and do offer it in a smaller, more concealable version. The are a little spendy, but are a darn fine weapon.

Now........if'n you need a place to get rid of those 9's and 40's.........

It originally belonged to one of my brothers. We swapped it back and forth a couple of times. The last time was around 1990. A few years later, when he was at the Command and General Staff College, he sold it to a full bird from the Philippines. The guy made general's rank soon after that. He wrote a letter to my brother a couple of years later. He mentioned that was chasing insurgents in the jungle and just happened to kill a couple of them. With MY old .45.

I've got the XD in 45 (love it) and have shot both the Glock and Kimber. Any are good choices. If I had the money for a Kimber, I'd own one.

Kimber is a good choice, i've not owned one but know several who have. I do own 2 1911's one a semi custom job by the first safari arms (who nobody has ever heard of) the second is a para usa gi expert. The Para is in the 500 dollar range and is a plain jane service pistol that I have been very happy with.

It doesn't take a large frame individual to cc a full size 1911, my tall scrawny 17 yr old son could conceal mine easily.

I have heard good thing about springfield 1911's but for 150 bux more ur in Kimber territory. Sig Sauer also makes a nice looking 1911....I've not shot one though.

If you want more capacity 30 round drums are available for the 1911

I've always liked horses......someday i'll have one with a pony on the side of it

XD's are great guns Ken. A fiend of mine has a .40 and a .45 and we have been shooting them a lot. One jammed one time the first time we shot it and it has been flawless ever since!

As far as Mass compliant goes, the list is a joke. I recently read an article - I believe it was about a sig model - and the Mass A.G. found the stainless version to be Mass Compliant but rejected the dark version of the very same model. The reason? A stainless had been submitted for testing and a dark version OF THE SAME MODEL had not been submitted. Absolutely insane.

What's funny is I have two Sig 226, one in .40 and the other a 9mm Navy. Both of which have stainless steel slides with Nitron.

I learned to shoot handguns on a pair of Springfield surplus 1911s back in the 70's. One of them was accurized and the ramp polished. I'd bet it shoots like any modern 1911 does.

I don't consider law enforcement as good choices to talk to about firearms or laws. Most seem to know next to nothing about either.

I have a former co-worker who left the company to join FDOT. I was talking to him and firearm issue came up. He said they issued him a SIG 226 and he wished he could carry his Glock which was a much better gun. This was a little over 2 years of his carrying the Sig.

Then FDOT was absorbed by the highway patrol and like most Florida state divisions they carry Glock. So. i tell him, hey, atleast you can carry Glock again.

He says, the Sig is a much better weapon! LOL

Carry what you will carry and shoot what you carry well. Shots to the cardio-pulminary traingle are usually show stoppers anyway. 9mm-.45
