lol no hmmm there is an idea oh sorry of my three neighbors that I share a property line with i dispise him waiting for southern one to burn out my house (see spider thread) but I like the one west of me

I am surprised that there are not hundreds of questions about homesteading. Knives 4,Million beliefs. The perfect gun 7, Billion different strongly held beliefs. Dress loincloth vs. Battle Dress Uniform loincloth, well you get the idea.

Knives and guns - something I can go out and buy today, use today. Homesteading not a practical choice for me today.

texas is big but it is all owned either by ranchers who over the last 200 years turned the area into an unnatural prairie or to close to an urban area then there is the oil and mine companies we wont go there BP has enough trouble just keeping their refineries from exploding. No im looking for some place with a person every five miles not 25 people per mile. I guess im looking for extra rural fresh land that hasnt been screwed up to bad by man

Well, go to Mexico or anywhere in Central America. If my calculations are correct, those countries should be ghost towns by now.

Why does anyone have to go to some wilderness area to homestead? I know, by definition, homesteading is establishing a home and land but why can't the principles of homesteading be practiced where you are? People can still garden and can or pickle, make things they need like chairs or tables and all the other things we've talked about on here.

but its the idiots im trying to get some space from ie did you hear about the 3rd graders in georga trying kill thier teacher or my son broght home a letter about a classmate who brought a .38 to school

We talked about that quite a bit in another thread. When we were kids taking a gun to school was no big deal. Most of us went hunting after class or just wanted to show our buddies what we had just bought, found, acquired, swapped for.

I get what you're saying and I wasn't addressing that to you personally. I just think we can all do a lot more where we are than we do. A couple of zucchini plants put out enough for everyone in the neighborhood (just about) and makes a lot of friends out of neighbors we've sometimes never met. Same with peppers or tomatoes.

when some of these kids take guns to school you get colombine, VA tech just to name a few

Oh, sure. It's a different world. Too bad in many respects. Anywhoooo. You might contact those Rangers and see what they say on the Asian Pine Beetle. You might also check any web sites up there and see what the conditions are for camping.
