I have seen this through a link here as well. There is some good info in it. I like the fact that he calls it "Practical Survival".

Tunick - Go to the Survival section. There's a sticky on Survival Kits and what you should have in them.

I just meant you might want to read through it. Everything you mentioned is already in the thread.

You don't have to delete it. I said that for your information. If you want to know what you should have in a survival kit you can look through the thread. There's enough information there to get you set up. I wasn't being critical. I was just trying to be helpful.

I had watched that when it was brand new on youtube.com I watched it again last night and then saw this post about it today. The guy obviously knows his stuff; BUT he was really prepared to give the talk and is very scattered in his presentation. He doesn't really ever finish a description of his survival kit. He also doesn't touch on one of the most important aspects of personal preparedness, PRACTICE. He said the bit about "false hope" a lighter or matches give someone that leads to disappointment when the fire doesn't happen. If you practice making fire in every weather and time of year before you absolutely need to get it done you'll not have any false hope. You'll know when it will be more difficult and adjust your mindset accordingly. The same goes for any skill you'll need when this go oblong. The time to learn them is before they go wrong.
Like I said the guy does seem to know his stuff, even though he is from the Rescue side of the equation. Still if he had been better prepared he could have shared twice as much info in half the time. Just my opinion.

Most of the guys from "the Rescue side of the equation" know their stuff as well. What happens if you get seperated from the other SAR guys and have no radio? Accidents can happen to SAR techs just as easily as anyone else. so, it makes sense to be competent at a minimum in the environment that you are going to be rescuing other people in before venturing out.

Alpine, I wasn't meaning what I said in a derogitory way. I just meant his emphasis was one what to do to be found. That's all I meant.
