Can you believe how ridiculous this is getting!! We should be teaching kids about guns, not kicking them out of school for playing with food.
It is funny to look into some old photo albums and see pictures of my father carrying his shotgun to the bus stop for trap club after school. What would they say now???

We used to have shooting teams in HS. I remember when I first came to this country, in my 3rd grade class show and tell, my classmate brought a .22 rifle to school. No biggie and no hassle. Today, that kid would have the fbi counter terror group shoving the business end of a rifle down his throat.
Demonizing of firearms in this country is disturbing. The selective reporting on gun news by the media is disturbing. Pretty soon, I'm afraid, our country will be like Canada. Canadian dad, Jesse Sansone, was arrested and stripped search because his daughter drew a gun in school.
My wife commented to me the other day that my oldest son always has some type of "gun" on his lego creations. I told her "good, that means he is a boy". Boys make weapons.....they have been doing it for thousands of years ( or millions if you believe so).

My Brother in Laws son was able to make a long bow in woodshop, but couldnt string it or make any arrows. He also made a wood model of an excaliber sword but they wouldnt allow him to sand the blade to an edge. When I was a kid it was common to see rifles and shot guns in racks in trucks in the school parking lot. and we all carried pocket knives too.

Yeah it is pretty sad. One morning, a while back, I came home from a day at the range and was unloading my car. My house sits on a corner where a school bus stop happens to be. A mom parked on the street waiting for the bus saw what I was carring into my house (my fault, should have kept it discreet) and called the police. I got a rude introduction, but after a moment, the officer knew the mom was being a yahoo. I ended up filing a harrassment complaint against her. She then petitioned the school to move her daughters stop after nothing happened to me and she got a police report on her. They denied it and I think she started to drive her kid to school. The following spring, her house went up for sale......good ridance!
On another note, a school I went to had a farm accross the street. If we had a gun or anything, the farmer would allow you to park in a gravel lot directly accross the street. He would also hold on to the boom sticks in his house if you didn't want to park there or rode with a buddy that day. I heard a few years ago, the farmer passed and so did the nice opportunity there. Nice guy he was.

Ridiculous... A couple years back I took toy bows/arrows, a toy 'grenade launcher' (that shot pop-its tied to sticks about 15 feet), and a miniature blow gun with real needles on the dart tips to show to some of my friends at swim team (not school-owned, luckily)... they thought those were real cool and even though the parents weren't nuts about the blow gun, I didn't get in any real trouble for it. Just glad the right people were in charge back then or I probably would have gotten kicked off the team, thinking in hindsight! However one guy I knew in middle school took a cap gun into the YMCA locker room and fired it a few times... It would be a nightmare for that kid if he did that today... some guys in the locker room thought it was real and ran out to the front desk... The kid got summoned, along with his 'friends', (I was somehow at the same place when he did it) to the conference room to have a nice long chat with the boss. I think he got kicked out, but I don't know for certain. That kid was a nuisance, but I'm still glad he didn't have the bad luck to do that in TODAY'S world!

In all seriousness, though, things are really getting out of hand. A news site published a poorly written article about Mindy McCready's suicide, and blamed guns for her death (I can't find it now, being buried in too many other stories published about her). The article listed hardships in her life, and even that she had attempted suicide on previous occasions, but ultimately accused guns of causing her suicide (as in, she killed herself because of guns). What happened to examining why someone would want to try taking their own life? Several times, at that? Why not deal with the issues causing problems, in stead of the end result?
I got in trouble in fifth or sixth grade for yelling, "kill!" before stomping an inflated drink container. I was nearly suspended for it. We were taught to fear knives, because knives cut (not that responsible use would make them invaluable tools), and panic ensued every time some kid forgot to leave his SAK at home. And guns were always evil. I started going to school in the mid-80s. I often wonder when these changes started.
In order for something to be really humorous there has to be some element of truth or "possibility" to it. Sadly......that was funny as all get out.
