    Default Ruger Single Six pistol

Well at the gun show Saturday, I got a fair deal on a Ruger Single Six with the spare Magnum cylinder. The pistol is used but looks brand new. The guy that sold it too me stated that it would be more accurate with the LR cylinder than with the .22 Magnum cylinder. I seem to remember hearing that it's the other way around.
Do any of you guys own a Single Six, and what are you findings on this subject? Also, what ammo works best in your Single Six?

    Congrats, fine addition.

I'm sure the gun is more accurate than I am....and don't spend much time 'benching" the Single Six....mostly used as a carry around "The Place" as a ground hog medicine.....or lately beavers....

One of these days the Taj ma shed is gonna sink 2 ft from the borrows under it......
In theory the 22 mag should be tighter so shoot more consistant.....?

Guess you gonna have to give it a field test, and report your findings.....

Thanks Hunter, that is what I thought until I talked to that guy! I did take it to the back 40 and tested it on a pop can. Hit the can 6 out of 6 shots, so it is minute of a pop can for sure.

Pop can is smaller that a ground hog....so I would say you are good to go......I have plenty of hammers for tacks...so my targets are more specific.

Is your Single Six picky on the ammo, or does it pretty much shoot well with any brand? I used CCI subsonic on the pop can test and as far as pop cans go, it was pretty accurate. If it ever warms up here I will do a range test and we will find out just how accurate the Single Six's are!

A lot of people will whince when I say.....I don't pay much attention to most any .22....and shoot what ever is on the work bench in the shed, glove box in the truck, kitchen cupboard catch all tray, coat pocket....you get the picture.

I see all the targets, talk,....I have 2000 buck in this or that.... this likes this, this likes that, and kinda zone out.....it's a .22......If it goes bang, works for me.

I get serious when this are a tad bigger and faster....that's just me

At the range, .22 shooting seem to be reduced to private grudge matches.
You would be supprise how good you can shoot when there is a beer on the line.....or the "bounce the can"....so I'm not a good one for MOA, ammo brands, types etc.

So you are on your own....beside you need to find out what yours likes....

It is the other way around. A 22 LR is .222 in diameter, a 22WMR is .224 in diameter. The 22LR gets slightly deformed during firing and for that reason is usually somewhat less accurate. Both are minute of squirrel/rabbit accurate, so unless your shooting for money at the range, I wouldn't be to worried about the difference.

Congrats on having a fine weapon. I find that the mag comes very close to the pinhead,1/64" dia, that I aim at,but realy like the Remington Sub Sonic & Viper "more better".

Concur with CWI, my experience has been the magnum is a lot more accurate than a normal LR round, but didn't know exactly why. Thanks, CWI.
