    Default Too much political talk on the forums

    There is a reason that Chris has elected to exclude political talk and religion on these forums. People feel very passionate about both. I for one am tired of listening to it. Your politics and mine may be very different (probably are) but we can still have intelligent (for the most part) conversations. Once we delve into politics it is no longer a disagreement about positions, but rather an attack on ones personal beliefs. I would prefer not to get into fights over stuff like this and ruin the potential for good conversations, the exchange of ideas, and a little fun. I have sent some PM’s asking individuals to stop…hope we can leave it at that. (end rant)

    Sometimes a discussion begins somewhere else and, because of it discusion's nature, ends up talking about politics.

    For example: Which knife is better, brand X or Brand Y? Well, brand Y is made by a dictatorship. Then someone else says, "So is brand Z."

    Before long we're discusing whether or not we should support a dictatorship by buying either.

    Now I agree that we shouldn't open with politics or religion. That can end in a dangerous situation.

    I have to agree here. Isn't there a way to set up a filter on forums? this could not only get rid of swear words (i sometimes accidentally slip a few into my posts), but also political words.

    *realizes what a stupid idea it is to censor the word "democrat"

    How about we go w/ a karma system? I've seen it work on forums before, and basically if someone is being an ***hole, you can lower their karma by clicking on a thumbs down icon right under their post count thing. And if they helped you, you click on a thumbs up icon next to that. the "karma" is visible to all, so it kinda helps encourage more thoughtful posting. Of course the amount you can change a persons karma is only once a day.

    How does that help? So someone can be ran out of the forums? PM's to everybody I know.....Psst.Lower this dude's karma. He made fun of me... Everybody's definition of being an arse is different.

    A winters day
    In a deep and dark december;
    I am alone,
    Gazing from my window to the streets below
    On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
    I am a rock,
    I am an island.

    Remy said they have a need to teach. I think that's what he said. Well...if he didn't he should have.

    Well, it certainly sounds like something he would have said, so even if he didn't say it and we are pretty sure he did say it, let's give him credit for having said it because it's a pretty darn good saying and he might have said it.
