Favorite and most practical weapons?

My limited experience has me preferring the old Lee Enfield Number 4. (.303) Bolt action, twenty round clip, most accurate rifle I have ever used.

More modern and in use for the UK armed forces until the 1990's was the 7.62mm SLR. Can you own one as a personal weapon in the US? Great bit of kit!

As for pistols, I have only ever used the 9mm Browning, awful thing.

What do you like?

The "most practical weapon" would probably depend on what you're using it for. Anyway, with the way things are currently going, the most practical weapon is the one you can still buy ammo for.

Depends where I am going and what I might encounter. For the most part I think my Browning 12ga pump is most practical. I can and have used it for anything from birds to bear.

Single-shot break-actions are very reliable no matter what the caliber, not necessarily the most accurate, but very reliable. AKs of course are tack-drivers, in the more literal sense of being durable enough to hammer things with, and beyond that, I'd say my specific favorites are the ruger 10/22 and ruger blackhawk, both are beautifully hardy in their construction, considering what they are. The Blackhawk, btw, is so heavy-set that you can use the very hottest loads of .357 in it with no issue, loads that supposedly would damage lesser revolvers from other makers.

On my wishlist: Remington 700 in .308, M1-carbine, and a handful of other things. If you're looking for practical, just look for a gun that you find tremendously comfortable, accurate enough for your purposes, simple enough in its construction (think AKs) and using a common ammo.

I was very lucky, I managed to get over and play with KYR's collection, It was great! Then he had that terrible mishap with the canoe and all that water. I too enjoyed the Lee Enfield. Shame it's at the bottom of the lake now........

Winnie has now qualified on more weapons than the average British soldier! Did quite well too, considering her absense from shooting for several years.

I will guarentee she has fired more handguns that any Tommy outside the SAS.

X-brit, where did you get a 20 round mag for a #4? I need one of those.

My favorite and most practical weapon is my Marlin 22's, one bolt action and one semi automatic. I shoot those more than any other gun so they must be my favorite and most practical!

Is your Semi a model 795? They are a nice looking gun, have my eye on getting one.

A 4" .357 revolver is practical in every scenario, IMO.

Don't tell anyone, but I already have a supply of these in my backyard. I've got them cleverly disguised to look like standard rocks.
