    Default Wild things

This may be the kind of post that Wildwoman was referring to the other day. It doesn't really fit anywhere but it involves wild creatures. I cross a river every day to and from work and I was driving over the bridge today after lunch and saw a bald eagle coast under the bridge and down river. He's getting bigger, he's been hunting along that river for at least the last three years and I've always managed to see him around the same time of day. He was sure a welcome sight, sure sign of spring and all that, but it got me to thinking about how many times I've seen eagles in the wild in my life. I'm probably right when I say more than most people ever get to, just because of the places I've been in my life. The cool thing is, I still get this sense of awe for every one of them that I see. They're just so majestic and I guess they've come to represent that sense of freedom to most of us. A good buddy of mine, a Cree guy from up north, once said to me:

"You know what the thing is about bald eagles? They know they're cool"

So, yeah. Just wanted to share that.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Thats awesome Trax,I have only seen them in rehabilitation, after an encounter with some idiot who shouldn't have had a gun in the first place, even injured, they are still majestic, and beautiful.

One got my 6 year old Jack Russell Terrier 3 years ago. She put up a pretty good fight for as long as I could see them. I search all day looking for even hair but didn't find anything.

they are majectic [if vicious] cretures. i've seen one take a seagull in mid air and tear it to pieces. i used to see them most days, most of the year. they still never ceased to hold my awe.

    i certainly miss them now.

Here's what he was saying on the 19th. As a cop, I imagine he's working some overtime.

"Okay its March 19th and we have had nonstop rain, I got 4 inches of water in the basement and its climbing, sump pump is running full tilt as is the drain, Chris said the first rule is to not live in a Flood Zone, well I don't live in a flood and I live on top of a hill, problem is after geting 14 inches of snow and now three days of rain the ground is saturated with nowhere for the rain to go, has to go somewhere so it eventually soaks through the concrete foundation. I have even used drylock on the inside of the basement wall, not worried cause it'll receed, used the wet/dry shop vac. to suck alot out but now I'm at work and the day will tell. Sure feel sorry for the Water Rescue guys today they been out since 230am and looks like they're working all day, the Miami river flood stage is 17feet, it is now at 26 and rising, the Ohio here is growing too."

If you ever get a chance to take Amtrak along the western slopes of the Colorado Rockies (Winter Park to Glenwood Springs, for example), you'll see more bald eagles than you can keep up with. The track follows the Colorado River for long stretches and at this time of year, they're out in force. And they're all awesome.

I got to travel to the Northwest quite a bit with my job (Seattle area) and I was just in awe of the eagles out there. They seemed to be just about everywhere. When we were in AK they WERE everywhere. I don't get to see beauty like that nearly as often as I'd like so it was really appreciated and I looked forward to it with each trip.

It isn't? I mean....wasn't that Ben Franklin? Kinda like "yeah nice job on the woodstove Ben and them bifocals by golly that's just crackin' good work, but you just leave that national symbol stuff up to us fellas. But hey, thanks for the suggestion, we'll be sure to give it due consideration. You run along now. Go fly a kite!"

young eagles taste very good roasted.
    you have to get them before they put on too many flying hours;
    that makes them chewy.

a turkey would be right symbol for the present government anyway.

I guess it's called drive by posting. Seems to do it on most threads that he posts on.

I'll get in trouble for this...

It seems to be on the oustside of the shoe rather than the inside.
