Nell PM me if you want but is the forestry to the Esat or west of you? I'm out Georgetown area. Yours is surely a very large cat. I have a cousin lives off the Henryville road Northeast of the downtown area.

You could put a yardstick just ahead of the stick on the left and retake the photo. Looks like a chubby cat whatever it is. Can't tell for sure if it has a dark mark on the tip of the tail or how big the hind paw is, or if those markings on the hind legs are real. Many have seen big cats here. We have wildcats too. I saw what looked like a cross between a wildcat and cougar up close once, but I'm still not sure what I was looking at.

edr730,oh it is real enough,we expected to get pictures of bobcats when he got the camera,not anything that big.considering the feeder in the foreground is a foot tall and the cat is about 20 yards on the other side of it AND heading downhill we know it is a big cat,but I will try to get some other pictures to show the area where he was.

Had a wildlife biologist come out this week and measure the area the cat was standing in the picture,and he is convinced as well that it is a young mountain lion,thinking maybe a young male looking to establish a new territory,also this week a sheriffs deputy was hunting about 6 miles from here,says he watched a mountain lion cross a field for about 100 yards,and when he couldn't see it any longer,he got the heck out of the woods

Cougar me thinks.. Dont want to tangle with one either. My wife told me about her dad's friend getting jumped by one at night, going from the hunting cabin to the outhouse. Damn near killed him, if it wasnt for the sidearm he had at the time. This was years back in Allaghany County, VA. She says, it was perched on the roof of the cabin and ambushed him when he came outside.

I agree.

As an "owner" and student of the American Short-haired Cat, my first thought was "fully-grown feral house-cat". Not cougar, not bobcat (tail not bobbed, etc.), not mystery-lion, not what-have-you.

Let me tell you. I have seen some B-I-G domestic cats. My granddaughter's older female Calico is barely short of saddling-size, and that humongous Orange Tabby that sometimes graces my backyard with a visit (to the dismay of the birds frequenting our feeders) is another example.

Not saying it isn't something more exotic -- only saying that the lack of a reference point makes it almost impossible to determine.

PS: If it is not a common (though rather large) housecat, the tail and uniform coloring strongly suggest a cougar, a mountain lion, or whatever they're called in your particular neck of the woods.
