hows everyones plants going?
things are booming here central ohio, field corn is already 4ft or more , the hot humid weather is growing all of it up and up. beans and hay as well. gardens doing very well. except the cool weaather plants , didnt get a lot of cool growing time, been 90's and humid, but seems to be raining almost in time for the plants ,
Down here in east Tx we've put up 50 jars of different sizes of dill pickles, bread and butters and sweet and dill relish. 40 qis of maters so far. 21 qt bags of green beans, 28 qts of summer squash, 9 qts of eggplant. We have alot more like potatoes, cabbage,broccoli,peppers (hot and sweet), figs,plums. Still have muscadines,peaches,and pears to come.
Plants are doing well!!

Lol I just got blooms on my tomatoes today. Of course, we can't plant until June 1 but this 24 hours of sunlight will kick some tomato hiney soon!

I live in Ca, don't let that fool ya tho. Elevation 4200. Got my veggies out early and all is doing fine The tomatoes would be doing better if it were warmer. Only got up to 69 yesterday and 39 lastnight. Everyday is not like that but it is usually maqrmer than this.

re doing ok,I have 8 tomato plants,with over 240 tomatoes hanging,plus tons of bloom,peppers are ready to pick,and cucumbers have been slow starting this year,but are coming into it,this year I have them climbing and a-frame made from a cattle panel,my boyfriend thought I was crazy when I said I want them climbing and not on the ground,but he did what I asked (still not allowed to do much of anything) and he is happy they won't be laying on the ground and hard to see when they are ready.
Only have 3 cuke plants,but it will be more than enough.

We are getting great squash, maters, and all the rest. Had fried green tomatoes last night. With this intense heat and no rain, we are however having to water it every evening. It is as dry as dust here right now.

We are watering ours every nite as well,we just found our first 4 ripening tomatoes todayyummmmmm! picked 16 green bell peppers,and sliced them up for the freezer,somewhere,I have my dehydrator and need to dig it out,haven't seen it since I moved over here and put it away....I think it's in that closet,and I know Steve isn't going to let me go digging in there,LOL

Having to water every evening but the maters are great, and my specialty hot peppers are growing wonderful. They love the hot weather. Needing some rain but it doesn't look likely anytime soon!

Tomatoes are doing well. Peas and green beans are struggling this year for some reason. My cucumbers are fantastic though!

I got 12 tomato plants that are handling the drought pretty good, got'em surrounded by straw and water them after the sun sets. The corn in my county is starting to twist pretty bad and over in Knox county there is some fields that are burnt up and no amount of rain could help at this point. All I can say is we need rain BAD!

I've barely had time to tend the garden this year. Except for peas, most of my veggies this year have come from folks I'm working for lol.
Strange, that with 4 beehives sitting in front of my garden, we've barely gotten any squash.
The spinach is thriving in the cool summer we're having so far, everything else is rather slow. Although we could already eat a few zucchini and a couple of tomatoes are "already" happening in the greenhouse.
My asparagus plants that I started two (or three? can't remember) years ago from seeds is about knee-high this summer but still a bit *ahem* skinny. We're talking the diameter of darning needles here, if that. Wonder if it'll ever get to a size where it's worth eating it ...
The mullein (the seeds and stalks turned out to be a favourite snowshoe hare food) reseeded itself, the echinacea looks like it won't flower yet again, and my herb garden now includes chickweed, shepherd's purse and pineapple weed. Still haven't managed to grow nettles for some reason
Actions speak louder than words
harvested first zucchini this week, will harvest first beets next week, raspberries peaked for the first harvest this week seemingly too, picked 5 pounds yesterday. Been harvesting greens (kale, spinach, lettuce) up until now. Winter squash finally taking off. Been watering, watering, watering, like crazy. We had only 1 rainy day since memorial day, and all this heat... even spruces and pines nearby, big old established trees, are showing signs of stress. My water bill is going to be enormous.

had the first zuc's this week, garlic is dug , and things lookin good, like growing in a greenhouse last week, rain and 100's , makin everything happy, except me hahaha
Over the past couple of months, my garden has pretty much ground to a halt.
Temps have been in the 110s, and we had no rain from April to the beginning of July. Thus, the garden was thoroughly invaded by thrips, spidermites, and hornworms.
Despite being told to stay OUT OF THE GARDEN, the yard guys went in and blew away all the leaf mulch (which keeps the soil cool), and pruned the small palm tree that was providing shade for many of the plants.
With my irregular hand watering, the blackberries nearly bit it. I added some drippers, to give them longer, deeper watering, and a bit of shade. Now they are bouncing back like it's springtime.
Thankfully, the monsoon season has finally rolled in. We're getting more humidity, and even some afternoon showers sometimes. All I can do is try and keep what remains on life support until the temps cool off. Then I will prune what remains back, and hope it springs back in the Fall.
I'll also be starting my Fall seedlings in a week or two.
