You can also look for or make a panel gauge. It's adjustable so you can make any depth of bevel you want. They are used in wood working but there's no reason you can't use it for what you are doing. Here's a couple of pics of a commercial one.

Was browsing through youtube and found this video that made me think of you Canid.

Now that i've got a better anvil, I've got go forge the next ones closer to finish. I blew that goal by a mile on this sword and as a result; if somebody had told me going in how much work this would be I might not even have believed them. The draw filing alone is giving me repetitive stress injury.

It's got a very, very long way to go yet, but here's how the saya is progressing. I still need to work the bulk down quite a bit, and blend the ash lams into the mahogany. I'm not sure at this point what I would like to do for the tsuba. I'm thinking forged and engraved copper would look nice. whatever I decide, I'm going to have to do one for the second tanto to match.

I know I ended up with a lot of sori (degree of blade curve) for a wakizashi, but I love it.

I know it's not done yet, but that is looking flat out gorgeous.
That is alot of work Canid! Impressive!
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

"How can you tell a story that has no end?" Doc Carlson
That's beautiful so far.

so i had a piece of copper bus bar and figured that would be good enough to forge a tsuba from. after over 3 hours of work; i realized it needed to be a good 25% bigger, and the bar is only so wide. I'll have to come up with something else. that tsuba is starting to look pretty good though, so i'll probably use it on the smaller wak. i resumed forging work on it as well, and using my sledge hammer anvil is way easier.

I've got them drying from a coat of tru-oil now. The wakizashi's saya needed a little more profile sanding and a more thorough fine sanding job first.

I also resumed forging on the small wakizashi and started cutting out blanks for two bowies and two full length swords. I don't know if they should be two katana or a katana and a nice light saber (not to be confused with a lightsaber; i still haven't figured out how to make one of those yet).

Hi canid, I can't talk the knife lingo like the guys, but I can compliment you on what I see. I'm familiar with a few knife makers, Crash included, but have never seen work of this design before. I'm highly impressed with your technique.![]()

Don't feel bad CL - I don't know the lingo either, but he sure does nice work.
