Picked up the little one from daycare yesterday and she was concerned for one of her classmates.
Seems the class clown (3rd grade) Jamal, threw a pencil at the substitute teacher, he hit her in the hair on her head.
She proceeded to block him in a corner with a table and threw a cup of pencils at him in front of the class, one by one.
My daughter came home from school concerned for Jamal. She wanted to make it right somehow, having been raised this is unacceptable behavior from an adult towards a child.
So, Dad stepped in and called this morning wishing to speak to the principal, which was of course not available. I was refered to the guidance counselor. I was very forceful with my words and insisted I be called back by the principle.
The guidance counselor assured me that since her child was also in my daughter's class, the issue could not have taken place. I assured her it had and suggested she spend more time listening to her child.
My call was returned by the principle this afternoon and she told me another student (the guidance counselor's child) had confirmed the situation and the sub would not be teaching at my daughter's school any longer. I am sure she will still be teaching somewhere though.
My point is listen to your children, it is our job as parents to protect them. At the same time I can understand loosing it with a child that has no parenting and am sad she cost herself a job in this day and time.
One thing I said to the principle is this "I supervisor grown men in a steel plant, and if I behaved in this manner I'd be hunting me a job"!
I also asked her... What adults job is worth a childs eyes
