Default Top 3 Go To Guns For SHTF Video

I get asked a lot what 3 go to guns I would carry in a SHTF event. Well there are a ton of different opinions on this subject but here's my thoughts on what I would carry.

Nice vid. Good that you played it safe and prefaced it with the "big can of worms" and "like pizza toppings." That should squelch a lot of conjecture & rhetoric.

I agree with your main themes. I pick a .22 rifle, a shotty and a defensive handgun.

I'm not entering a caliber debate with my next statment at all. I'm just giving a hunter/gatherer tip to file away for REALLY rainy days:
Nearly ever police vehicle in this nation has at least one box of .40 cal ammo in the back/trunk.

    Thanks,

    Good video, love the backdrop,lol.-

What is the justification for a shotgun? I find them heavy, and expensive and heavy ammo. I feel the .22 will do the shotguns job and defer to a centerfire rifle over a shotty. Calling it a streetsweeper is fuel for the enemy of our rights. Please be cautious with comments like that.

I may want a shotgun in urban environments if my field of fire was shorter and more prone to bystanders. I do like your shottys setup, Clean and high volume.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

I chose a shot gun because it ends fights and is a great back up weapon.. I have old folks living with me so bugging out is not a option. So I have to dig in and defend the homestead.

Well if the SHTF, I have it all covered no matter what. But if I had to bug out, it would be a .22 rifle, and my .357 magnum revolver. And if I had a partner we would have my AR to boot!

Exactly. TO a small degree it depends on geographical region you live in, but If I were asked to write a piece on a shotty as the one weapon to have, I could make a really strong case.

example: Let's look at an nice ultra light 20 Ga. auto. Say a Benelli m2..... It's REALLY light and it's ammo for a shotty is not heavy either. And with a mild assortment of various shells I can successfully hunt & kill anything from Moose & Grizz all the way down to House sparrows on the wing. People never seem to stop and think that a shotty with heavy bird shot (duck/goose loads) is effective fishing "tackle" for slipping around the banks & shallows in a water born craft or stalking the banks via land. And I can defend myself effectivly with it as well. Having a small assortment of choke tubes makes it all the better.

I'm not saying it's practical, but it is verstile- You can shoot arrows (modern or primitive) out of them too. Folks 'round here are bad to take deer during archery season with a arrow down the pipe of a .410. A modern arrow do'n well over double the FPS of the the latest, hottest compound bows is serious "archery tackle."

Easy. 1911, ar with 5.56 and .22 upper, shotty. (ar upper isn't considered a "gun" for this event. )

I was watching the military channel and they did a segment on gear. They showed the ubiquitous flack jacket. They shot one with #7 shot and the jacket stopped it with no trouble. They shot it again with 00 and it went all the way through and out the back of the jacket. I just thought it was an interesting aside to the conversation on shotguns.

So all the years I spent packing that thing around were just for conditioning.

Based on guns available(between me and my dad) I would take the Remington 870 12 gauge, Winchester 94 .22, and a Beretta 9mm... although the two Ruger .44 revolvers are tempting just cus I'd feel like a badass cowboy :P

Oh yea I would also have to consider my Remington 7600 in 30-06. With a 10 round clip and pump action you get a lot of metal flying through the air with plenty of stopping power. I have the carbine 18.5" barrel so it is easier to handle. I really like this gun and it can take down a lot of game... or an assailant if need be.
