    Default people to people

My youngest daughter became involved in a program called people to people. It was started by President Eisenhower. It's a program where she goes overseas with a bunch of kids and chaperones and explore different cultures. I think it would be good for her, hopefully she won't be a stick in the mud like me. It boils down to making money, getting donations.

Have any members ever been involved in this program?

Any money making ideas? I'm going to give her my furs and we cut some balsam boughs for chrismas wreaths. My wife is from a family of fourteen so the aunts and uncles
are donating. The wife's parents were from big families too so there lots of aunts and uncles there too. We're doing bake sales and bottle drives. I'm going to give her my scrap metal too, it adds up a bit. She's selling some king of pizza kit thing too. She's hitting up all the town businesses too, they're generous to, good people. Any more ideas? I'm a hands on type guy myself.

One thing I learned from all this is when some kid comes into the office looking for a donation, give something. I have always done this except one time. It was one of those days that I was wondering if the doors would be open tomorrow. I wish I would have come up with something though.

I haven't told her and I don't plan on telling her that if she gets even close I'll come up with the rest. Although I'm a little nervous with my baby going to europe.

She is going to LOVE being away in Europe! It will be life changing, I guarantee...in a good way.
How old is she? If she's old enough to drive, she can offer to take old folks shopping or do errands for them. Baby sit at a church. (more $$ than for individuals) Offer to do house chores for various members of the family. Call up people and say...I can do x, y, z, for $10...$15...$20.
Make it irresistible and worthwhile to both parties.

I think she will have a blast. I did three deployments in the Navy, all of which consisted of Europe. Great times and lots of good memories.

She could write an introduction letter telling about herself, her grades, her goals, and ask for sponsors. Send out these letters with the stipulation that anyone who sponsors her will receive a trip report of her activities when she returns with a list of all her sponsors. Get her a pay pal account and a facebook page just for raising the money and so people can check up on her progress. Get different local corporations to challenge each other. Know anyone with a car dealership? These are pretty successful fund raising tactics.

When I was in high school, I went to Greece with my Word Studies class. It was definitely a life changing experience! It gave me the desire to study abroad in college (Japan) and then eventually to live there for a year.

I think it will be a good experience for her, she's a bit on the shy side. She takes after me, her mom you would be lucky to get a word in edge wise. LOL

We (all of the members here) received a thank you card from Randyt's daughter for the contribution she received. It's refreshing that she took the time to write a thank you card. You must be doing something right Randyt.
