Cougars or Panthers, I don't know, but I know some years ago the wife and I were camping and something wicked was in the woods that sounded like a woman screaming.
Last year I picked up a hunting publication with about 4 pages of pictures taken with trail cameras, all of big cats. Some were clearly NOT panthers and cougars, but a few of them, particularly one with a big cat chasing a feral hog, with distinguising height features, clearly were huge cats.

All joking aside, I don't put a lot of faith in what most of the "experts" think. If they have facts, that is one thing, but it's hard to say that something is not in a certain place.

Facts is a panther standing dead straight in front of you....and your buddy that didn't believe, as white as a ghost.

Kind of like this area. The local game warden was on the radio station this fall saying no big cats and no alligators in this county. He needs to get out more. Have seen several game cam pics at a local sportshops this winter of big cats. As far as gators I don't need a cam. I had one remove a catfish I had on a couple years ago while night fishing. Let me tell ya. That got the blood flowing. I don't listen to well when the so called experts speak.

While we obviously have panthers in my area. The number reported to enhabit the area is kept as low as possible for conservation reasons. The rarer the animal the more funding. The fact is panthers are in greater numbers than the land can support and many panthers are killed by other panthers every year. The FWC official count for panthers killed last year was 24. 9 of those were hit by cars and the rest were killed by other panthers.

That only counts panthers that are found. They usually go out and try and collar as many panthers as they can. How ever many they collar, well, thats how many exist. LOL

I have seen a collared panther and most of the video you'll see is of uncollared panthers.

I have seen a panther east of Lake Okeechobee and seen reports that stated a panther was sighted there a year earlier. A biologist went out and decided the sighting was invalid. The cat was hit and killed by a car the next day. But, the biologists report stayed negative.

No cougars in Maine!! We just have mountain lions! I've seen them and have seen some picture proof.

There are both cougars and mountain lions in Maine...... just go to any bar and you're sure to have a cougar sighting!
