Scored a Freeby for the Garden

My spouse and I took the Big dog to the groomer today. While we were running errands my spouse spotted a strip mall being landscaped. We decided to ask for the empty containers and they said YES!

I am going to use them to expand my hydroponic set up this winter and try to get winter tomatoes. About six of the containers had trees in them and about twenty had roses. They are the perfect size for my ebb and flow system.


And before you start, there ain't no pot in my pots.

Great score! I did well a while ago with some free containers. Isn't a hydroponic system expensive? The kit and feed etc is terribly expensive over here.

Hydroponics on the cheap is rewarding and gives just as good results. Seems the big buck is mostly for automation. Many low cost general fertilizes work well and only need a bit of calcium nitrate thrown in. Understanding the theory of it is the important part.

I don't have it set up right now. I'm planning on starting it up again in the fall. I'm looking to set up a new greenhouse with a solar heater.

Hydroponics can be as expensive or as cheap as you choose. I have pics posted of a set up I made out of some found in the dumpster at work downspouts, a home depot bucket, some found around the house PVC, and a 250gph pump.

I'm hoping to accumulate everything I need for the solar heater for the fall.

I'll have to work on the pics of the freebys.
