I paid more attention to the Culture Circle, and dancing this time, even though I had a nice treat for myself at the end. The whole album is here.

Met a few new people this year too, weighed a few options, did some troubleshooting. It was a good day: I think I'm getting too much sand out of my clay, and spinning thread.. enough to make one dress.. is far less efficient than tanning 4 hides AND sewing them together in "fancy" patterns. learned some more interesting characteristics of the local stone from the knapper, who is an archaeologist. More rope materials and hook designs..Neat stuff!!

A question (cuz I don't know). Did the NA's use that much color and "frill"? I imagine there might be a big difference between everyday wear and ceremonial wear.

"Everyday" wear was much more like my buckskin suit: Quickly thrown together and not fancy at all, but most of it did have some fringe to help with drying and perhaps a tiny bit of decor.
These garments are all "Regalia" which is another word for "Fancy" or "Ceremonial".
Of course, 500 years ago, none of the textile fabrics were available, so these are more period correct for somewhere around 200 years ago.

A side note. Most of the garments, whether ordinary, or regalia, would often be adorned with beadwork and natural pigment stained paintings. Regalia had much more decoration than the ordinary "work clothes", but they all had some. Remember, it only took at most, 6 hours a day to meet their basic needs, so the rest of their day was filled with crafting and decorating. In my area at least, they didn't wear clothes in the summer, except for perhaps snake leggings and loincloths (if that) due to the heat.

I don't use my computer to search information but I do use it live stream radio programing that I just can't get living back in this valley and get most my information this way. The only station I can pickup over the radio is KNBA an Alaskan Native radio station but you can live stream it the way I listen to other radio stations. They play all kinds of music and have alot of cultural talk shows and music from not just Alaskan Natives but indigenous people around the world. I think you would enjoy it and you can just turn it on and still do things unlike watching tv or sitting in front of a computer.

YCC- I would also like to know what nation the dancers in your photos are representing. I am guessing Lakota or Chicasaw. The style looks more Lakota, the colors more Chicasaw to my eye. Mostly Creek, but since the relocation I'm not sure that's really accurate. They are supposed to be representative of the Muskogee, which is an ancient parent of "creek" that we are familiar with today. I'm not terribly familiar with all the different nations, but the majority of the leaders claimed "The Great Creek Nation", one of the four major nations. Keep in mind that many generations have passed since they were forced to move to Oklahoma, where most of them live now. A few live in North GA, (wish I could remember what they called their settlement).
The festival is not intended to be culture specific and some of the dances were (IIRC) Choctaw, Crow, Cherokee, and modern Seminoles. It was hard to keep up with which dance and dress went with which culture, but I'm sure there was some chicasaw too. Sorry I can't be more specific!
