    Default Found an old friend

A looooong while ago I mentioned in a post how while out hunting a few years ago I had lost my Case High Carbon Steel Stockman my father gave me in 1984. As it turns out, I was mistaken. While at the deer camp this evening bushogging I had to make a pit stop in the rest room. Well, we all know that a man needs something to read while in there so I went over to the book shelf and pulled down one about wilderness living. As I reached high and slid the book from between the others, my long lost Case stockman hit me in the chest and slid down my partially unbuttoned shirt. The darn thing was sitting on top of the book. Then I remembered what had happened. A few years ago I emptied my pockets for the night and put all my stuff on the narrow ledge in front of all the books. There was not enough room so I slid my Case knife on top of the book. I genuinly thought I had lost it while hunting when I emptied my pockets the next evening never remembering that I neglected to put it in my pocket that morning. In my mind my Case knife was lost forever in the woods. I can't tell you how many times I looked intently at the ground while walking to my stand hoping to see it. I never did obviously. Man, when I found my knife I felt really great and really goofy at the same time. I expected some rust from the condensation in the camp during the off season but it is no worse for wear thanks to a heavy patina acquired over the years. A little oil in the hinges and it's as good as the day I "lost" it. I know this was a long post but I'm so glad my old friend is home. I replaced that knife with a Victorinox farmer some years ago and carry it religiously now. I guess the Farmer will have to get used to sharing because my Case Stockman is riding up front and left tommorrow. Tommorow I'm gonna find a nice piece of wood to whittle and have an ice cold beer in celebration. Thanks for reading my long post. Man, I'm so freaking happy!!!!!!!

9mm: Because even 1911 guys don't want to get shot with one of my "little" bullets.

Not only is the Stockman a good looking and handy pocket knife, the fact that your dad gave it to you makes it irreplaceable. I'm glad you found it. I have a similar Old Timer that I love.

That a great up lift thought, and really glad you found it.
Man I have had that happen as well, and some things just can't be replaced.

I wore a Gerber "Touche" for 25 years.....Belt buckle with a small folding knife in it.

They don't make them any more.

Lost the blade off it while cutting brush,,,,,Man really felt a loss as I found it so handy I used it about every day.

Every time I happened to be out at "The Place' I would take a walk in those areas I had been working in and after about 6 months, I found it!
Was kinda buried in the tall grass, I can only think I was supposed to find it.
Retired now, but still miss having it on my belt.

Congrats, man I know how you fell.

Hunter, I have worn out 2 of those. Great little box cutter.

Congrats on finding your knife GC.
I had a compass, but without a map, it's just a cool toy to show you where oceans and ice are.

Back in the 40's 50's and 60's those knives were free with most farm supplies, we had them laying everywhere in the barns. Mostly they came free in the kits for treating Misstates. But the guy who delivery the Molasses would leave a few on the barrel each time he refilled it.

Thanks Yall, My stockman is riding up front as we speak. It's familiar shape and weight brings back some times. Rick is rigt's ht. My dad giving it to me so long ago makes it special. maybe I should just retire it. Naw, It's still got plenty life ahead and memories to make.

Take a look at this belt buckle knife and see if you can tell whats wrong with it.
I have one, bought it when I couldn't fine my Gerber Touche', so I guess you can say, I got it on the rebound.

    Look close........

Is the buckel facing the wrong direction from your prefered side. I mean, the knife would have to ride on the top, right? Or is it that the flame etching does not match and causes the knife to "stand out" to the descriminating eye? OK....I give up.

I guess we do think the same, Good guess!...The buckle would be upside down if I wore like I normally do, and the knife falls out as a magnet hold it in.

I called the company, was a english speaking rep for the Chinese company that made/imported it....Told them about it, and all they said was return it for a refund.
I still have it....and I see that the price is down to like $6 bucks, LOL.

$6.00? I don't blame you for just keeping it. It probably would cost more to ship it with insurance than what you would get refunded. Trash the belt buckel and throw the knife in your tackle box and call it a day. That's what I would do. Glad you found your knife. Doesn't it feel great to have her home again?
