Teen High on 'Bath Salts' Kills Neighbor's Goat,

CHARLESTON, W.V. - A 19-year-old man who told police he was "high for days" is accused of killing his neighbor's pygmy goat in his bedroom.

When lawmen found Mark Thompson hiding in the woods, he was covered in blood and wearing a bra and panties, according to the Charleston Gazette.

Lisa Powers says one of Thompson's acquaintances called her nephew Monday, saying her newly-acquired pygmy goat was loose in Thompson's house.

When the nephew and two women went over to retrieve the animal, they found Thompson dressed in women's clothing next to the dead animal. Thompson ran off when they tried to question him.

Police got a search warrant, and according to the newspaper, inside the bedroom they found the small gray and white goat wearing a pink collar lying dead on the floor. Next to the animal was a pornographic magazine photo.

Officers say the animal looked like it had been stabbed in the neck, and possibly sexually assaulted. The animal will be examined in a necropsy.

When police caught up with Thompson, he allegedly told them he'd been high on "bath salts" for three days.

The stimulant drugs, which are often a synthetic amphetamine known as MDPV, are marketed over-the-counter in many head shops as "bath salts." The DEA has issued warnings after many people died after ingesting drugs sold as "bath salts."

it's about time a news article uses the word necropsy where it is appropriate.

i doubt the substance in question was one commonly used in bath salts, but one surreptitiously marketed or packaged as such. you can buy all manner of controlled and un-controlled psychotropic plants on line from most countries as 'incense', 'smudge bundles', etc. you can even find opium poppy pods sold on ebay allegedly intended for floral arrangements. based on the character of behavior of the individual in question (and of course assuming this is a legitimate story and the so called bath salts where a contributing factor) i would guess the chemical in question to have been a strong dissassociative: tropane alkaloid, phencyclidine or designer analog, a prescription benzodiazepine, etc.

from what i know of commercial bath salts, they are predominately inorganic salts more likely to act as saline laxatives than psychotropic substances, and any danger beyond that i would attribute to cardiac complications, kidney/liver toxicity and from any effects of the fragrances used in them.

everything i was able to turn up on google citing any recreational use of bath salts seems to reference this specific incident. i call shenanigans, fluke unrelated to bath salts, or a substance which was never intended to be a bath product to begin with.

interesting that it doesn't seem to be a dissociative drug at all. i'm going to go out on a limb and speculate that that guy had a predisposition for violence, transvestitism and possibly livestock to begin with. i'm having a hard time believing a substance who's psychoactive effects seem comparable to the phenethylamines causing that kind of behavior of their own.

I've done some really strange things in my life. Things I probably wouldn't want the general public to know about. But I will guarantee you you could pick any one item out of that article and that boy has me beat hands down. And to think he did all of them. You'd probably have to move to a different town when you sobered up, change your name and buy some man clothes.

The question is...did he break the law? Unless he stole the goat, it was trespassing. It could have been self defense those pygmy goats are vicious, I have 3 and sometimes it's almost scary to go outside.

And.....it could have been a goat suicide. Perhaps the goat was high on bath salts, too. We won't know that until the necropsy results. Who knows what the goat was dressed in. Maybe a suit and tie.
