    I had it on an old deep V 20 ft Sport Craft. Pretty heavy boat that handled well off shore. I kept it out of the shallows. A few other smaller boats that I ran them on did well in shallow water - just that to watch the kelp getting hung up on it.

    H63,

    I like the Mack's River Runner, always figured on making one myself copying the design. Some concern though about drilling the skeg. The hydro foil itself has no effect at slow speeds or in shallows since for the most part your going slow. The jack plate IMO is the solution to your wanting to motor through the stump fields. The combination of the jackplate and hydrofoil is my solution to the stump infested Santee Cooper. I get on plane quicker and once on plane the motor is about 3" higher than stock. 3" eliminates 90% of obstacles I can't see. I keep the duck boat motor unlocked so it just pops up when I do hit an obstacle. I have sped accross exposed sandbars in this manner, about 6 ft. wide. Hunter, take a look at your motor. The anticavitation plate performs best when in perfect alignment with the bottom of the boat, you'll probably find you can add the jackplate and raise it 3" and improve overall performance. Note* There are also long and short shaft outboards, a long shaft outboard coupled with a shortshaft transom would really be bad in the swamp!
    I run my fish and ski even higher utilizing a Raker prop which has been pitched and cupped at the machine shop. When at full throttle half of the prop is actually above the water, and sir! That there is just a plane fun eggbeater! Note you have to lower the water pickup to accomplish this. I also have my eye on the outboard mounted triple electric motors that would be sweet!

    So far as antifouling paint, not a concern and of no consequence it is a trailered boat and used only in freshwater.

    What size motor is that?
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.

Believe me I know....Couldn't find my thread where I had sarted cleaning the carbs to no avail the upper carb flooded do to a leaky needle and seat thus the second try. I am rebuilding the carbs and got the wrong kits twice. Carbs wound up being manufactured in the 90's, so apparently have been swapped out. I got the motor used about 2002. Moral of the story -Do not put ethanol in a boat motor. Here they are with new floats, needles and seats. Going to consider replacing the jets now....

    My 150 Mariner was made by Mercury (gone for a while now). Was it just the smaller ones (relatively) manufactured by Yamaha?

    From what i can find you are correct about the under 40 hp mostly being Japanese and yeah, I noted several larger motors were actually Mercs' like you found out. The american made Mariners were mostly Mercury. Not sure there was really ever a Mariner manufactured Mariner.
