    Default Racoon vs. transformer

Well, it has been a long day (night actually) at work. A racoon got to exploring and climbed what I guess it thought was a tree. Turns out the coon climbed a power pole. So the bugger decided to climb up on the transformer, to survey the area you know. BZZZZZZZT!! Dead coon. Dead transformer. Power out to over 10,000 customers. Including the warehouse I work at. (sigh) I give National Grid credit. They got the power back on in about 3 hours. However the power outage put my work crews behind 3 hours. I will be lucky to be done by 9 a.m. If that racoon weren't already dead I would kill him...

You should see what they look like after they get into power lines! Yuck! I've been to a bunch of those calls...weirdest was a dead crow, squirrel and buzzard all at the base of the same pole. I had 5 or 6 dead birds once too, the last one on the wire touched the lightning arrestor and his buddy and the whole clan ended up cooked.
