I plan to dig one sooner or later. I have a low spot just waiting for me to start!
Keep in mind the problem may be extremely complicated, though the "Fix" is often simple...

I am not real sure...I think 7 ft. would be minimum depth to support freshwater fish well. More critical to success would be the oxgen and quality of the water. I have kept catfish fingerlings in a 4 ft. deep and 5 or 6 ft. around hole lined with 3M black plastic. along with minnows for bait. It was well shaded and I just overflowed it with water daily.

I had a friend that had some wild catfish he got when they were tiny, he kept them in a fish aquarium, they lived but stayed pretty small..

The 4 acre lake I own in PA, I have kept it stocked with trout, bass, panfish, crawfish, certified state supplied minows. There are also small pike, catfish and a few other species in there. I just let the lake manage itself. In the summer I do de-weed with a cutter and a weed rake in some areas. I use the lake weeds on the garden when I till it each next season.

I have always wanted to create an indoor Crawfish hatchery system for profit and self use.

Here is the one you were thinking of Justin (earlier post) I am not sure what will go in it. I will post a follow up when and if it quits raining. I have looked at lots of pond ideas to include crawfish ponds.

Fish will not outgrow their environment. If you keep them in an aquarium they will stay small. If you put them in a 30 acre lake they will grow big. Fish are smart that way. People, not so much.

Here is a thread where I looked at doing that the first time. Here is a link to the female with eggs. Old post...It is almost time to have another go at it.

I read an article many years ago about someone raising catfish, quite successfully I might and, in a 4ft deep swimming pool!
They were using a washtub with a pillow on the bottom , some charcoal and a pillow on top for a filter! Wish I still had the article! I am going to give it a shot one of these years I assure you!
