    Anyone heard of this?
Quote from Lofty Wiseman's book. SAS Survival Handbook pg. 219

" Do not waste blood. It is rich in vitamins and minerals, including salt, that could otherwise be missing from the survivor's diet. Cattle blood is an important part of the diet of many African herdsmen. Cannibals who drank their enemies' blood found vision and general health improved and giddy spells, induced by vitamin deficiency, cured: the blood provided the missing vitamins and minerals."

    Pg 298 of same book:
"Leave in the container in which it is collected but keep it covered. A clear liquid comes to the top. When separation seems complete drain it off. Dry the residue by the fire to form a firm cake. Use it to enrich soups and stews."

Hmm, as an aside, have you ever eaten prime rib or a medium to rare steak? lots of blood in that.

I knew it was true, but its still gross and I'l eat damn near anything.
There is no greater solitude than that of the Tracker in the forest, unless perhaps it's that of the wolf in the wilderness.

I dont know I can see it either way. Keep postin guys and maybe ill be convinced one way or the other.

never drink blood for thirst , it actually needs your kidneys and liver to work overtime so its more like eating then drinking . animal blood is actually very healthy if you can stomach the taste.

One would hope. Then you have to deal with the lumps. I guess you just think of it as a bad gravy.

No lumps if you get it on the heat quickly. I remember as a kid running as fast as I could with a bucket of calf or pig blood and my dad yelling at me to hurry. My mom would be waiting at the door to throw it on the stove to make blood sausage.

My job after that was to clean and scrape the pig intestine while dad made his spicey concoction for the sausage. It was a family event I fondly remember.

I still make it for my kids today.....

Yummy!!!! Guests can not see images in the messages. Please register in the forum.

Nothing like fond childhood memories. Mom with her apron on. The kids gathered around the dinner table. Savory aromas fill the air. A bubbling pot of blood on the stove while dad stuffs the pig guts. A Rockwell moment if ever there was one. Maybe Orwell moment.
