Potassium Iodine tablets

Sorry gang, but due to recent events my mind is shot so a little help please? I was reading somewhere in the last couple of days where someone, SOMEWHERE, posted about the rapid increase in K103 ( pottasium iodine tablets and where you can locally get them (drug stores) and walgreens was mentioned and their brand ( OTC ) was posted. But now I can't find the post anywhere. I called the local walgreens and they don't think they carry them at least not called potassium iodine. If somwone here posted the brand name, Please help this old fart realize I ain't gone completely around the brnd.

"Now" makes one...but I've been hearing that most of the suppliers are on back order right now because of the run on them.
If you just do a search for Potassium iodine tablets and/or Thyroid support or supplement, there are a lot out there on the web.

I just seen on the news yesterday,, That the only way to get the kind of radiation that those pills protect against is by consuming tainted milk,,, if you dont drink the milk from cows that ingested the irradiated grass,,,, you are safe from the kind of radiation that attacks the thyroid.

Well, NO More milking the geese, thats OK they were low on butter fat anyway, plus I never liked milking them with those wings beating me in the face.

First, tainted milk is only one way to acquire it. One of the radioactive materials released is radioactive iodine. You can come into contact with it in any number of ways. You can inhale it, drink it, eat it or absorb it through your skin. Once you have it inside of you then the the thyroid will absorb all of the radioactive iodine it can hold. If the dose is high enough then it will cook the thyroid and you'll be on supplements the rest of your life. If the dose is lower then you'll survive. Either way you could come down with thyroid cancer years down the road. Potassium Iodide tablets allows the thyroid to absorb the iodine from the tablet and that prevents it from uptaking the radioactive iodine. It's most important for babies, kids and young adults since they will live longer and be more likely to come down with thyroid cancer. Me, not so much.

Another useful adjunct is Prussian Blue. It binds with radioactive material in the intestines and allows it to be passed through the stool. But it turns your poop blue.

Potassium Iodide is an over the counter product. Your pharmacy can order it. Prussian Blue must be prescribed by a doctor.

Radioactive Iodine is also released intentionally, in bursts, as a product of nuclear fission usually within legally allowable amounts; these allowed amounts are calculated on a per day basis rather than as high-amount bursts or episodes. This helps perpetuate the myth that the allowable releases are no health hazard. Wrong. The episodic rather than regular release of iodine-131 means we get big hits and then none at all, especially in milk and milk products. The reason that iodine -131 is so dangerous is that it has a relatively short half-life of about 8 days; this means it has a radiogenic life of about 60 days, and then the amount remaining is probably biologically insignificant. Although this short half-life is touted as a great thing for patients, the short half-life means that most iodine 131 taken into the body will decay in the body rather than being excreted. Rather than occurring over a relatively long time, the short half-life means a lot of radioactive decay of iodine 131 is within the thyroid gland, releasing unavoidably molecular-destructive gamma radiation to nearby cell molecules. There is no safe dosage of gamma radiation inside cells. It is the radiation that kills the cells in the thyroid.

That was a scenario that occurred in the U.S. after testing was conducted. The radiation drifted down wind, settled on grass and a bunch of kids became sick from dairy milk. Maybe the 40s? 50s for sure. In any case, it happened.
