They have (5) Five damaged reactors. And Thousands of "Spent" Fuel Rods that must be kept cool.

I know that they are scambling all of their resources to get this under control, and I'm sure we are assisting any way that we can. Hopefully they get it all under control.

If anything good can be said about the current situation, is that Japan is probably the best prepared country for this magnitude of problem. If it had been a "lesser" prepared country, the "hurts locker" would now be wide open

The reports I've read this morning indicate no one has been close enough to the rods to know what their condition is. They are speculating that a partial melt down may have occurred. They are simply operating under the assumption that a melt down has occurred.

"They said they were unable to confirm whether a meltdown had occurred because they cannot get close enough to the reactors' cores."

Wouldn't it be ironic, if the survivalist who moved to Alaska, and have been living in frozen shacks so that they are in the wilderness when the shtf, have to bug out to the lower 48 to get away from the nuclear fallout that the winds are bringing from Japan.

Hey! If they didn't plan ahead they are not getting any of my stuff. That's why I live in the middle of the country. Everyone else is in the "buffer zone".

They said 2.2 million homes were without power last night. Can you imagine the chaos that would ensue in the United states if we tried to evacuate 170,000 people under those conditions? Oh wait, Katrina...

What is amazing is that that is down from 8 million just after the incident.

We ain't them, that's for sure.

Rick, you are 110% correct, everyone is making assumptions about a melt down......it has NOT been confirmed......the explosion could be simple steam pressure along with a mild over dose of rads....

They are however using sea water for cooling and that alone means that site will never be used again as a nuke plant....they have tossed in the towels as far as saving the plant. Right now it is a scramble cooling.......to prevent a melt down and a china (to them a Canada) syndrom.

One thing I am confused about are the death tolls they are spouting off......... LOW by any standard...then it was explained, they only announce certified deaths, not speculated deaths.

It is now 55 hours and foreign reliefe efforts are just getting there today........we will get a better estimate of damage and deaths...wounded later today I believe.

You can order them through you local pharmacist. They are considered OTC.
