    Default only three more days.....

Counting down the hours now..... Three more days until vacation. Saturday morning we are heading up to Derby Indiana where the "retreat" ( land we bought) is located. The guy we bought the land from also has a piece of rental property he has now decided to sell. Its a small piece of land about 5 acres but it has a house/ cabin on it that's nice from the pics he sent me and it borders the land we already bought. So were going to check it out and maybe................

While we still can't move up there yet mainly because of wifes job with fuel prices We can't afford to drive 72 miles one way every day to work ( 2 vehicles because of shifts). But there is a possibility to hook up with a vacation rental company ( there are several in the area) that will maintain the place, set-up rentals for vacationers, maintain and do repairs that are needed, for a percentage of the rental. From what I have gathered they rent the place do all the work, and keep 40% to 45% of the rental charge themselves and we get the rest.

IMO something like that would be a win/ win. I don't have to worry about the place being damaged/ vandalized, as some one will check on it daily rented or not, and whatever income is generated will also help with insurance and mortgage payments.

Just thought I'd share the potential good news with my family here, Also I'll take lots of pics and post of at least the land when we return,

Just got home a little while ago. Came home early due to flooding. The road to the cabin where we stayed was flooded when we arrived and had to take the high water detour. Well after another 3-4" of rain the high water road was starting to flood and the main highway was under 8" of water so we decided to "Bug out" early so we packed up and loaded the trailer and headed home today. So we plan on going back up and checking out the other place we are interested in when the water goes down. We couldn't get to it as that road was under 3' of water. Hope to get back soon and take pics then.

We also came back early because wifes niece's husband was severly injured earlier this week when some bit#$ driving a school bus ran over his SUV. Just found out a couple of days ago, found out when we got home he's doing a lot better andd is out of ICU but still can't have visitors.

O.S. I am down here in Evansville myself! you arent kidding about the flooding! I have NEVER seen such bad flooding, but as i am not from the area, i am not one to judge the conditions. Question tho..I am working in Henderson KY, and have to cross this biggish bridge every day...does 41 ever flood out completely?? Just wondering cause i see a LOT of high water on both sides of the highway headed to the bridge..lol

Every one should have a "Place" to go to, hope it was still fun.

Also good to see the area when it's behaving badly, not just the sunny summer afternoons.

Flooding is a concern at our routes to our Place, do have several possible alt. routes, but always keep in mind, if I found them, so has everyone else.

Glad your relative is doing better.

Other than the road and driveway issues, how did the place hold up?

aweeee sorry to hear of it.... hope everyone is OK.... Hope you got something out of the short time at least..... water/flooding sure can be a PITA when you plan for something outside....I am the same way with snow, I hate ice and snow....but I have to stay in Cleveland for family reasons for parents.

Maybe you can go to another one when the weather gets better this year.

Laughingbeetle... As far as I know of 41 doesn't flood in the area your talking about ( twin bridges) but on the south side of henderson, water has gotten up almost to the edges of the road a few times.

We were okay where we stayed water got up about 100' from the cabin but we were another 50' higher than water level so would have flooded out the town before getting up to cabin. We didn't go over to the land as that road was flooded also.

Thanks to everyone for well wishes for Matt. He's getting a lot better. He was moved from ICU but due to injuries, ( head injury, broken arm and ribs, multiple bumps and briuses) they are not allowing and visitors see him yet. Outside of wife, parents and such. They say that right now he just needs some rest. I'll update as we know more.

That's a shame, I know how much you were looking forward to the holiday. Best wishes for a good recovery to your relative.

Thanks again to everyone for the concern and prayers for Matt. We went up to the hospital today, right now they are only allowing immediate family in to see him. But according to his Mom he's getting stronger everyday. He still has some confusion and doesn't remember anything about the crash. Which the Dr. said wasn't out of the normal. He said that Matt will need a couple of surgeries to repair some damage one of which is for a "minor" depressed skull fracture, and some other things. While he will likely have a long recovery ( a month or more) he's pretty well out of danger.
