Woke up this morning feeling pretty good.... Until I turned on the TV to find that the Supreme court had ruled that the scumbags from westboro baptist church were within their constitutional rights to ptotest at military funerals. What in the he## were those idiots thinking? Well...... Iguess being what they are the WERE'NT thinking. It is a sad state of affairs when the families of those who paid the ultimate price have to be subject to that bunch of trash. Imagine the message to the kids who not only have lost their Mommy or Daddy, and then have to hear a bunch of a$$hole$ yelling at them that it was THEIR fault!! That God HATED them and was PUNISHING THEM!! Some days I am ashamed to live in this country. Yes my friends Today IS indeed a SAD DAY.

Unfortunately, freedom is a two edged sword. It is truly sad that we have to let detestable idiots like these folks have their say, so we can be guaranteed to have ours. I see no problem letting them say whatever they want as long as it's at a respectful distance - say a mile or so away from the grieving family. One of these days a bereaved survivor is going to go postal on these male children of female dogs, that way we can spit at their coffins and dishonor their memory as they pass. Payback's a B. I'd love to serve on that jury. I'll give the sucker a medal and have the families of the dead pay for the bullets.

I still think the way to hammer them, is to get a large group of people with signs etc and have them protesting outside the homes of these A-holes. Make sure that they are there when the school bus rolls up so all the kids know who these Aholes are as well.

In some ways I'm glad to see the decision. I don't like these guys any more than the next person but the Supreme Court faced what they had to know was both a difficult and unpopular decision. Yet, they did so based on the law and not on popular sentiment. That's just one very strong distinction between us and most of the countries of the world.

There has to be a way to stop these clowns that is legal. Let's hope the retired generals have better luck.

IMO it was the correct ruling. As much as I despise those people...to quiet them would have led down a path or more regulation and more censoring of opinions.

this sounds like a plan, in addition when a parishioner passes protest their service.

I have to agree with the ruling also. I agree more with Sarky, someone needs to make it personal to Them so they can grasp consequences, yet within the law.

I agree in part that freedom of speech IS freedom. HOWEVER there IMO is a fine line there. If these idiots wish to protest that's fine. BUT not right there yellaing and screaming at the family of the deceased. While I don't personally agree with the type of lifestyle they are protesting, I am not comdemeing someone who chooses that lifesytle. ( homosexuallity) That is another good thing about this country freedom of choice, I do however think that these people TWBC should be "Banned" from doing so within sight or hearing of the family/friends of the deceased. If noting else out of common sense and decency. I know that the WBC bunch in all likelyhood do not have those atributes but.........

Wonder how they would feel if I expressed my freedom of speech at 3 am in front of their homes playing acid rock over concert speakers?

I completely agree, Oldsoldier. I've got one question though. Why aren't all the gay's protesting this bunch. They had a field day protesting proposition 8 in California, but now they are curiously silent. Why? It would be like the black panthers protesting the KKK. Why pick on the family of an innocent, heterosexual soldier who died defending their right to protest. Does anyone else see the irony in this?

I agree with the ruling for the charge brought. I feel they are guilty of assault and that should have been the charge. My wife watched some of it and said the plaintiff's attorney was a Bozo (no disrepect meant to the late, great clown of the same name). I think about 500 gallons of sewage from a low flying aircraft might hit the spot (EPA be damned).
