Default My votes payed off this year!

I like the law! I hope it passes! I think people should have the right! Sure, I think the training is a good idea for most. I do not think it should be a law. I have my own range out back!

Here is why I think it should be the new law of the land. Most, if not all of the undeserving in SC are already carrying. One convenience store just got robbed twice in 48 hrs. the law would deter crime!

on the other hand it will create a wild west mentality so they say. I would like to know where such a law has been passed that it created a wild west mentality.

We are currently enjoying a ground swell of favorable laws with regard to gun ownership and carry but the pro gun control folks are fighting all the harder. That's why it's SO important to contact your state representatives and make certain they know how you feel. Urge them to adopt the Castle Doctrine if your state has not done so and urge them to vote for the right to carry without the requirement of a permit.

A couple of recent decisions by state supreme courts upheld state preemption laws that prevent cities and counties from enacting their own ordinances (Ohio and New York) but there's still a lot more to be done.

Congrats, CS, I hope it passes, too and thanks for reminding us that some politicians do have their brains on straight.

I hope it passes and I hope the training gets to be a requirement. One can never have too much training.

I am kinda hoping that the change in Wisconsin majority will result in the passage of the CC, missed by a couple of votes several times, but then again would this be considered......... Politics?

Politics is really about attacking Democrats vs. GOP. The rule is designed to stop flame wars that always develop when you begin talking about which is better and all that stuff. Discussing current topics, laws, decisions and pending bills is a lot different than bashing individuals because they belong to a specific party. Chris can certainly correct me if he thinks I'm wrong but current affairs is much different than politics, IMO.

That gets back to my point, I have had firearms in my care since I was 9yrs. old. When I was 9 I had a 12ga. shotgun and a ammo can full of shells under my bed. I have never pointed a gun at anyone. Nor, have I ever had the desire to do so. I have fired countless rounds from a myriad of weapons. I have had a hunting licsense every year since I was 16, (didn't need one before that) I have taken hunters safety. In truth I am more dangerous to the public with my compound bow. Why do I need training? Why should I be forced to pay for it with money I could have used for my family? My Father trusted my judgement at 9, I trust it now. By the way my little girl is safer with a firearm than all of the thugs that already have the right to carry because they have no apprehension of going to jail with a slap on the wrist for carrying a firearm. Why should law abiding citizens be at a disadvantage when it comes to protecting their lives and loved ones?

CS, you give other people too much credit, imagining they are all like you. They are not. I'll be the first one to admit that I haven't had a lot of training and that going to a range a few times a month isn't enough.

If people are required to take/pass driver's ed to get a permit/license, what's wrong with expecting the same for owning a firearm? (I know...driving a car is not a right, but owning a firearm is.) People like you who don't need training just pass a test (kinda like eye test at the DMV--no charge) and you're good to go. If you can't pass then you need training. No big deal, really.

If this allows more people to own guns and know how to use them responsibly, why quibble over details?

I hope the law passes. I wish all states would have something similar. You do need to be aware though, that if it does pass - and you travel - make sure you check reciprocity laws. States that currently honor your state's ccw may not if the law passes. Some states decide whether or not to honor reciprocity by looking at the requirements to obtain a ccw. For example, Florida does not honor Vermont ccw because of only needing to be of age and have a valid drivers license.
