You should have picked them up and asked if they were real....then shake the daylights out of them. That would have got their heart pumping.

Strike any wheres are widely available down here in Bama. I just bought a box myself, for the purpose of water proofing them. I read awhile back about pouring melted wax over them on a plate then separating them for storage. It should work and who knows when they could come in handy. I know waterproofs are every where, but I prefer to make what I can. With 250 per box, I'm sure my son and I can figure something out.

LOL....I had no idea, thqat strike anywhere matches had become such a big deal. Yesterday, I was at a gun show, and it seemed like everywhere I looked, someone had them on their table, for sale. (I didn't think to look at the prices.)

I think they are making a come back. After all the talk on the forums about not being able to find them the demand has picked up and everyone seems to be selling them now.

Calex - We've talked about that on here a bit. It's pretty easy to do. Put some chunks of wax in a microwave safe dish and use your microwave or you can use a double boiler on a stove. I used the microwave. Heat the paraffin just enough to melt it. Drop in some matches. I used a pair of needle nose pliers to turn them then I laid them out on some aluminum foil to dry. Coat the whole match because if they get wet the water will soak into any exposed wood and can migrate up the match rendering it useless.

To use, remove some of the wax off the head of the match and then strike just as you would any other match.

Clean up is with hot water. It will melt the wax out of the container and your wife won't thump you.

I bought 3 boxes at Hannaford of the strike anywhere's for 2.49, of course when I was there a couple of weeks ago, I bought 3 boxes for 2.49, but when I got home they were the strike on boxes which were right next to the strike anywhere's. So I guess I really have 3 boxes that cost me 4.98, not such a good deal now.

Hello crashdive. I read your post and saw that you live in north florida and can get these strike anywhere matches in grocery stores near you. I live over by tallahassee, fl and can't find them anywhere. Would you mind letting me know where in north florida I can get these matches. It might be worth a drive to me to get some.
    thanks, k.

Hey Kevin - welcome to the forum. Publix grocery stores carry them in the Jax area. They should as well in your area. I'm going to be out your way next week for a meeting. I always stop at the Publix just off of I-10 as I come into town to pick up things for the meeting. I'll check while I'm there.

When you get a chance, light on over to the Introduction section and tell us about yourself. We are all looking forward to warm and illuminating conversations.

I guess I didn't realize there was a shortage of strike anywhere matches.
Picked up some while back at a ACE Hardware store.

I do want to pass along a possible disaster preventing tip.
STORE THEM IN A METAL/GLASS CONTAINER.

    The reason: MICE.
I had a box, on my work bench, in the shed , at "The Place". (yeah I know, stupid!)

The box had been chewed up by mice........matches had been scattered.........And several had actually fired off!
If the match had caught any others or anything else nearby, I'm sure a major fire would have occured.
Metal box will also help with moisture................

Something I used to do years ago with them to use as a Fire starter was to take 7 SA matches(in a bundle) and dip them in wax. Strike and it will burn long enough to get a fire going.
