Default THANK GOD ALMIGHTY! It's OVER!

It's been 2 months since I bought that piece of crap PT709 Slim from Taurus...and we've FINALLY agreed on a solution!
I've lost the only buyer who would be willing to PAY me a fair price on the slim if they were to send another back to me because he had the SAME exact problem with it.
I picked out their Ultra-lite model 85 revolvers that shoots .38 special...the MSRP was LOWER than the slim, but I offered to eat the cost...and they were good with it!! They're sending me my new gun! WOOOOO! Here she is! Ain't she purdy? http://www.taurususa.com/product-det...adcrumbseries=

I hope you don't have any problems with the new gun.
    1. If it's in your kit and you don't know how to use it....It's useless.
    2. If you can't reach your kit when you need it....Its useless.

Thanks! I don't think I will. Their revolvers have always had a good reputation...and this one is rather solid. Not a polymer frame like the slim.

I sure hope you like it. My wife has a Ruger LCR in .38 and she loves it. Just watch the hammer if you carry it in your purse.

I hear ya. We have a Rugar 357 that also shoots .38 and I love how it shoots .38 too. This was a good compromise I think...now we don't have to purchase 9mm. My husband and I can just share his .38

I have been using an 85 as primary carry during cold weather for two years. P3AT in warm weather, but I go to the 85 as soon as I can justify a jacket in autumn.

I have been very happy. I shoot this revolver a lot since I reload .38spl. It shoots straight and has held up well.

I recently traded my P-85 (along with a coulple of S&W's) for some knife making supplies. I think there will be another P-85 in my future at some time.

Not only that, but it can shoot +P ammo, so I can get the higher power defensive rounds and the stopping power of a 9mm or even the lighter .40 loads.

    I've owned two Taurus pistols.
The first was a 6" .357 Magnum. I don't remember the exact model number.
    The second was a PT22 in .22lr.

    There won't be a third.

I do a lot of gunsmithing and for the last 15 years there has always been a name on my work bench, that is Taurus. I have had an ongoing revolving door on most (not all) Taurus semi auto pistols. Rarely do I get the revolvers. The basic reason for this is...... a company named Bangor Punta Corp. They owned for a time being Smith & Wesson, Beretta, Taurus, Star, Pistolenos and a few others. Beretta had very few piece part licensing available, so Taurus had to wing it and try to reverse engineer the semi-autos with detail engineering being different than the Beretta's.. That is why they kind of look like Beretta's but there are major differences i.e. The Beretta 21a .22lr Vs. the Taurus PT22 .22lr. They look alike at first glance, but there are major size, internal and mechanical differences between the two.

On the other hand, there was full exchange on technology between S&W and Taurus under Bangor Punta Corp., and their revolvers are very well made. All of this was to take advantage of the lower costs of labor, materials and shipping avail in South America. Taurus has never gotten their stuff together on semi-autos but they fully took advantage of S&W and utilized every aspect of S&W manufacturing tech on the revolvers.

On an obscure note....the reason Taurus revolver triggers are much smoother than S&W from the factory is because Taurus does a final micro deburring stage on parts before they are surface finished and S&W does not. S&W comes with fairly huge burrs on the critical parts like the sear surfaces and bearing surfaces. That is why S&W owners buy snap caps and pull the triggers about 1500 times to smooth out the actions prior to fooling with the springs. You do not have to do this with Taurus revolvers. They are good to go right out of the box, if you want lighter actions, there are Wolff spring kits for this, no need to polish the parts on a Taurus.

In the end, Taurus revolvers, very good choice. Taurus semi-autos, DO NOT bet your life on them, I see way too many accross my bench for really bad issues.
