i am in love with these little sour guys! but , i'm not going to keep it 2 myself; has anyone else ever eaten this wonderful plant?

When I was a kid, my grandmother had something similar to this growing next to here house. We lived in California at the time but they were from West Virginia. She told us that we could pick the stems and chew on them. It tasted real sour but good. The plant grew close to the ground, with stems about six to eight inches long. The flowers though I remember being purple. I believe it's the same thing your speaking of and yes I liked them very much. Thanks for bringing back a good childhood memory.

I've only chewed on the stems but having them in a salad sounds good. Though it's probably not a good idea to over do it, high in acid?

Just a caution,

Known Hazards: The leaves contain oxalic acid, which gives them their sharp flavor. Perfectly all right in small quantities, the leaves should not be eaten in large amounts since oxalic acid can bind up the body's supply of calcium leading to nutritional deficiency. The quantity of oxalic acid will be reduced if the leaves are cooked. People with a tendency to rheumatism, arthritis, gout, kidney stones or hyperacidity should take special caution if including this plant in their diet since it can aggravate their condition[238].

Oh its really good in soups too. And if the cooking gets rid of the oxalic acid that is all the better.

Yep, I had kidney stones and my Dr. said oxalic acid was one of 2 causes of kidney stones.
