Chad is learning to play some dodson songs on the lute and requested that I make him some real gut strings.
Anyone familiar with Dodson's instruments? I'd like to be close to historical accuracy, if possible.
I hope you all enjoy his performances as much as I enjoyed them live on my own 12-string washburn.

The best thing was when he and I played a song I wrote years ago, which he never heard before, and we just hammered it for about 10 minutes. WOW!!

Chad didn't know much about primitive music, but he recognized music as one of the unifying characteristics of all cultures the world over and was interested in what little I knew about indigenous instruments. I have a feeling I will be getting requests from this fellow for drum heads and banjo heads, and probably more gut strings.

He took the time to show my kids several techniques in piano and guitar and I could not have asked for any better gift for christmas than this fellow showing up in the chop shop, and spending his time here with my kids. What a great guy!

Well I got 50 bucks, cashews, box o' Pot of Gold chocolates, $2 dollar scratch off, won 4 bucks, and an off brand Hershey bar.

Re-gifted the 50 to the ex, her kids, and the ones' wife.

I'm currently "fiening" out on chocolate.

Considering we're grown ups and it's our Lord's supposed birthday anyway, 5 years ago we stopped buying presents for each other and started contributing money to the NYC Rescue Mission and the Bowery Mission. (homeless shelters)
We've volunteered there before, serving Thanksgiving meals and we couldn't think of a better way to celebrate this holy day than to give where it can really make a difference.

Nope, I don't know what to add to the apples in water. I was using your recipe for peach cobbler in a dutch oven. Only difference is I prefer apple cobbler.

If you have a tip for making apple cobbler with the canned apples in water I would be grateful.

EASY APPLE COBBLER

2 (15 oz.) cans apples (not filling)
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
White or yellow cake mix (dry)
2 sticks butter
(Cinnamon if desired)

Layer in 13x9 pan apples (sprinkled with cinnamon if desired), sugars and cake mix evenly. Top with pats of butter. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until golden brown and slightly bubbly.
Peaches and cherries work well also. If you use pie fillings cut back to 1/2 cup sugar and 1/3 cup brown sugar. Cherries packed in water need more sugar, about 1 1/4 cups.

Batch, that recipe that Crash posted should work just fine. The liquid is for the cake mix so the water in the can should work just like the juice in the peaches. Remember, I said if you use pie filling then you have to add some water so you should be just fine. You need the liquid otherwise you'll have apple powder cobbler.

OK...apologies to those who do this, but it's something I could never understand. My IL used to do it and now we have friends who do it too.
They ask each other what they want for Christmas, then they wrap it and put it under a tree!!!
So later when the gifts get unwrapped, they act all surprised. Is it me, or is this weird? I mean, for whose benefit is this?

It's weird benesse. I've been trying to break that kind of gift giving habit here. There is no sense to it and I'm so over the commercial Christmas hype.

I did get a nice 12qt enamel pot for pickling, and a gift certificate to BassPro (not sure how much. That part is always a surprise.)

My wife and I just purchased a pair of those. She got that exact boot. I got the men's version...obviously......or not so obviously.

I got a noisy wheel bearing. I was really excited to get that. Arrrrrrggggggghhhhh!
