    Default Mountian House shortages

Many people have said that they are having difficulty recently ordering dehyd. foods manufactured by Mountian house foods. Well I found out why. A friend of mine owns a local "survival store" he is the local distributor for MH products. Tuesday he recieved a certified letter from MH. The letter said. ( Not work for word but you'll get the idea) " We at mountian house foods regret to inform our customers that due to our commitment to fufill a contract with the government, we will not be able to fill any orders to individuals, dealers, suppliers, at this time. We are sorry for the inconvenience and we do value our customers here at Mountian house foods. It is our hope to be able to complete our government contract by the middle of March 2011. We will at that time resume taking and filling non-governmental orders. Again we apologize for any issues/problems this has caused and appreciate your understanding and look forwars to future business"

I'm wondering just what kind of contract they are filling,?. My friend tried to find out and MH refused to elaborate.

If by what I have learned over the years, allow me to help one person to start to prepare. If all the mistakes I have made, let me give one person the wisdom that allows them to save their life or the life of a loved one in an emergency. Then I will truly know that all the work I have done will have been worth every minute.

Sounds to me like a big one. But that's just a guess on my part.

Maybe there's been a problem with other suppliers and MH have stepped in to fulfill a commitment.

A month ago I ordered 8 #10s to take advantage of a sale. I was informed that they were on back order and only yesterday they notified me that the order has shipped.

well; we've sent a huge amount of relief supplies (20,000,000lb according to one source) to Pakistan since the flooding, including food (56,000 packaged rations among it) which would have had to have been outsourced to companies with suitable facilities.

North korea (to which we are a major relief contributor, all tensions aside) is experiencing major flooding this season as well. I am not up on the extent of major disasters recent or ongoing but i'm sure there are many more.

I'm surprised Mt. House is filling a government order when the feds have so many contracts out there with MRE manufacturers.

When the hell is our govt. going to think of IT'S people before the rest of the world. I find it hard to believe that we are now sending freeze dried foods to other countries! What happened to all those bags of beans and rice????? More likely the govt. is stock pileing food for when the economy tanks and we are (you are) standing in food lines. Or perhaps to feed the politicians fat asses.

Hey, OS - Can you confirm with him that it was the government? I've read several articles on the net that proclaim it's just demand and that Oregan Freeze Dry can't keep up with it. According to those reports they are NOT selling to the government.

We've gone from bullets to bacon and bread I guess.

A lot of people are concerned, and are putting up food. It seems only natural that freeze dried would be in high demand.

Rick, according to Earl ( my friend who owns the store) after talking to the rep at MH he deals with. Mountian House is indeed filling a contract for the U.S. Govt. The rep would not confirm what agency/department the contract is with just that they expect to be busy doing so until as the letter said sometime in March.

You know - I'll bet if this was posted on some of the more "out there" boards, we'd be reading stories with a headline something like "Government Readies FEMA Camps - Food For The First 1,000,000 Detainees Being Stockpiled".

As far back as I have been buying Mountain House there have been claimed to be shortages. It could very well be a marketing scam or a way to cover up for a poor shipping department that takes forever to to fill orders and make you feel lucky you got it at all. I buy mine from local stores and at lower rates than online and paying shipment. The only time I have seen the shelves empty was when I left the store.
