Green River Knives?

I am wondering if any of you peoples have used any of the Green River Knives? the reason I am asking is that I want to pick up a few cheap beater knives and am trying to decide between Green River and the Condor Bushcraft knives.

I have handled the Condor's and know they are a little thicker than some like and that they need some elbow grease to look and work like you want. I am ok with that and am actually looking forward to it.

The Green River knives I hear are of decent quality at a great price. They are of thinner stock than the Condor's but they are supposed to mimic what they used way back when.

Anyways I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with them, good or bad.

I am a big fan of Green River Blades.
As they are traditional, and very functional, for "Knife uses".
As a "survival knife" I guess they would be too thin to use as an axe, weapon,...... handles aren't hollow, for all the other stuff, that seems to be necessary.

As you see I have a few different styles, like the patina that comes with use.
They hold an edge, a good tool at a good price.
You won't look like Rambo, but they are nice knives.

Yeah I am going to combo them with either my Golok or Tomahawk and my pocket knife. I was just trying to decide which I should get.

R-K, I like your thinking, I am also a fan of redundancy (having a bunch of them)
As the price is right, and I can't seem toremember where stuff is as well as I used to, I like the "bulk" approach.

The Dadley has a good look to it, I would carry that, after a set of scales were installed.

Better to have a few replacements on hand if I am ever in need of one. I like the idea of having a dozen or so on hand if I or someone else needs one.

Do you happen to have a picture of the spine? I want to see how thick they are. If you have a comparison shot with something that would be wonderful as well, but if not no worries!

R-K tried taking some pic's but couldn't see much, (I'm needing a better camera, I guess)

I did mic the blade on the straight Green river knife, by the hilt and tang .105
thousandths, but as I moved down the blade it was thinner, down to .85 thousandths continued to taper down to the point.

I believe this gives it more flexibility.

The curved "cabbage chopper" or skinning knife measured pretty much the same.

I don't know if the Dadley is made the same.

As I don't have any "real" survival knives, (?) I suspect those blades are the same thickness as the tang, till you get down to the point.
This would make it much stiffer.

Maybe some of our knife makers could shed some light on this.

My most used knives are two Green River ripper blades. One has horn slabs and rides on my belt rig for reenactment and all my primitive camping. The other is in the knife block on my kitchen counter.

Like the old time MM I use my GR knife multiple times daily. I wake in the AM and the GR blade is in my hand before I have been awake 5 minutes. It slices and dices, fellits, slabs cleans, skins and does everything I require of a daily use knife. And guess what? That is the main use of a knife in any outdoor activity. A belt knife is not a shovel, or a crowbar, or an axe.

The Dadley pattern is sometimes called less historic than the other patterns, but there are several references to the MM fighting off Indian attacks with their "Dadley knives". The other designs are specific to different countries standard use knives that were brought to North America as trade goods.

The Dadley blade is a bit too wide and the point too blunt for my needs. As I said, I prefer the ripper. Nice thing is that there is a GR blade for every preference.

These are the real survival knives that kept people alive when white men were killed for sport and game was killed to keep you fed.

Thanks for that information and your insight. I like to have a tool for everything, or a tool that I can use for mostly everything. I plan on getting a Paring knife to go along with it though.
