I'm pretty sure you said we could nominate as many folks as we want, right? (In no particular order)
I nominate Alaskan Survivalist, Sourdough, Swamprat, Wareagle, and Hunter63. Pick any thread by any of these guys.. They LIVE it every day. They are out there doing and always bringing new ideas and concepts to the table. Always helpful information and always from experience.
I would also like to add RWC and Crash for their recent posts and videos, experiments, and experiences. Pick any that fit within the time frame... sorry I can't be more specific than that.
I would also like to nominate grrlscout for her recent posts on foraged foods.

    Cool Well now...

I WAS going to nominate Army Ranger Rick, but he hasn't posted in soooo long...

The same goes for Ken, he gets my nomination for all the posts he does on backpacks, Radio communications, etc.

This competition is to get people motivated to go out and do something. Right? It'll probably be the same people who have gone out in the past and did something.

I would like to level the playing field and make it about the best post in a given period. If all it took was one great post to win everybody would have a shot and I think more would try for it.

While I appreciate everybody's efforts to make this as inclusive as possible, I must say that I thought Sourdough's vision for this included the following aspects.
    1. Encourage more people to get out and do things rather than just Google it and report.
    2. Increase the quantity (and possibly quality) of posts that relate to "doing" things.
    3. Provide some real life examples for those that for one reason or another cannot get out and do some of the things we talk about.
    4. Inspire some of those that might be able - to get out and share in the doing.
    5. Make this a continuing and ongoing thing.

With that understanding, I set up the process the way I did. Maybe the nomination period is open for too long, thus confusing the process. For the next quarter (if we decide to continue) the period will be from January 1st until the last day in March. I suppose opening the nominations on April 1st; leaving them open for a week; then voting for one week might work a bit better. If we are all in agreement, we can close the nominations and open them up for a week in January for the previous three months and then vote. Honestly, I'm trying to make this as simple as possible while sticking to Sourdough's intent (which I interpreted as a very good idea) If I misunderstood Sourdough's intent, then I apologize.

    Your thoughts Sourdough?

hmmm, lets see. i like the idea, the true winner will be the site, for all the folks who will benefit from the knowledge passed down.
there is alot that i would like to offer, but even trying to e mail a pic is near impossible much less several for a thread, ifn i can send some snail mail and someone can scan them, then i would like to play.
maybe we should have a pro catagory and a novice- difference being guys like me and AS or SD or dogman and several others who just do what we do on a daily basis, just bring a camera along.
now the other catagory might be for the city folk who have to put in more effert to get boots time as they have to make time for it, not just walk out the back door.

This "Boots in the Field" thing is a great idea!

What if it were just a month long deal starting Nov. 1 and running thru Nov. 30. And it could recur every month or every other month, etc.?? Then the votes can come in as it goes or within a set time, say a week after it closes.??

That way folks who want to participate can have time to come up with something, but it doesn't run so long that folks lose focus or interest. I would like to include write ups without pics or vids as well, to include those who don't have the time or materials to take or upload pics or vids.

    Crash -

Not meaning to complicate the process. I like what you are doing very much. However, RWC has a good point. Maybe a best for the month with those 12 competing for best of the year? That would shorten the nomination period as you suggested. Open the nominations from the 1st of the month until the last day of the month, have a poll for voting and a winner named by the 10th (or whatever day) of the following month. It's seems that a full quarter is going to garner a LOT of nominations given the excellent quality of outdoor folks we have on here. I think four weeks will get a bunch, too.

If someone posts an excellent how to then they could be nominated right then. When voting time comes no one will have to go back through a full quarter's posts to see which one they like the best. That could be a lot of videos.

Just some thoughts building off what RWC said.

Yep, PGV is awesome with the military and Boy Scout experience. Anyways, anyone I would nominate has already been nominated. So, no additions....yet.

What ever you'all want to do is fine with me. I notice some of the forums have little Award icons that are awarded. Frankly I never liked the Reputation system, but I can see that if someone had 4 award icons I would want to read their posts. Maybe there is a way that a clueless newbie could search just the best posts that have won awards. I think we forget how overwhelming all this is to someone new to the subject.
