Default My new toy....SRH .454 Casull

I made a good trade this weekend and picked up a new toy. It's a Ruger Super Redhawk .454 casull/45 colt with a 9.5" barrel. It was love at first site. I can hunt anything from yotes to elephants and rhinos now.
Just thought I would share with my forum buddies.
Now its time to change out the grips, the springs, and do a trigger job.

Hell, save the ammo and just pistol whip the game. That damn thing is heavy enough you could swing and miss by two feet and still kill the animal.

That is not the whole thing. Those come with an axle that fits throungh the grip screw bushing, a set of wheels and a trailer hitch replacement for the front sight!

Was that stuff not in the box?

If you didn't bring jerky what did I just eat?

Cool, Ar, Ar, Ar, more power!
Now you can chase wounded bears into the cane break!

I've seen a lot for sale "sorta used", wonder how it shoots?
    Keep us posted.

    P.S. Recipe for elephant stew:
    1-elephant (medium sized)
    400 lbs of spuds
    100 lbs onions
    100 lbs carrots
    1-Rabbit

1st -get your self an elephant (ya kinda got that covered)
2nd -cut up in bit sized pieces, (this will take 6 weeks)
3rd, -now cook for 2 weeks in a really big pot, adding spuds, carrots, onions in the last week.
4th (optional) -only add the rabbit if more than 3000 guests are expected,................as most people don't like hair in their stew.

A bazooka at least has a shoulder rest. Man! My hands are achin' just thinkin' about pullin' the trigger. And that's empty. I don't want to think about it loaded. Brrrrrrr.

I have three .454 Casull's all Freedom Arms. Great Cartridge. One has a 10" Barrel and a 2.5X to 8X EER Leupold. I figure it is good to about 400 Yards if I do my job. I like the 260 Grain Winchester Black Box ammo for all around work.

See I am liking SD more and more. The weight of the revolver doesn't even bother me. I was afraid I wouldn't like the 9.5" barrel, but to be honest I am liking it more and more. This my first .454 so I have a lot to learn about it. (hopefully reload for it soon).

Yeah SD I would love to have a FA but funds and wife won't tolerate a gun of that nature just yet. I love my Ruger SRH's. My 480 Ruger wasn't real bad on recoil, but I read there is a big difference between the 480 and the .454. A buddy of mine says it is nothing like the internet gossip says it is. Guess we will find out in a week or two when I get some time in with it.

The worst handgun recoil for me was my .475 Linebaugh "Maximum" with 440 grain loads. The Cases are made from .348 Winchester Rifle Cartridges.

Had one. One word of advice...never shoot it without hearing protection. One shot at a deer from my 454 SRH many years ago and I still have severe ringing in my left ear.

That is a great piece. We bought one for my father right after they came out on the market. I went out to shoot with him and after he had reloaded he gave it to me. It has a pretty good recoil if you have good wrists, unfortunately I had carpal tunnel surgery 2 weeks earlier and it hurt like he!!

I have shot it since with no problem, but I will never forget the first time I shot that hand cannon.

Nice piece of hardware, I would really like to get a 460SW so I could shoot the 454 as a milder load.

    So, any range reports?
