if you haven't noticed yet, i am very proud of my Irish heritage. so every week or so i do a search on google to see what current events are happening in Ireland. it has been pretty quiet for a long time until tonight i came across this article.

i may agree with the cause but I don't agree with the methods. it is my hope that one day the whole island will be united as one country. i think that only when that day comes will there be a lasting peace in Ireland. but anyway, i was wondering if any of you had an opinion on what is going on in northern Ireland.

The way of the world in the last two decades has been more about independence/splitting up along national lines than uniting.
Seems as though people just don't know how to live together and share power unless some sort of duress forces them to compromise for the greater good. As much as you'd like to see a united GB, I have serious doubts that it can ever be the way it used to be before the "troubles". That ship has sailed.
I have this fear that we'll eventually face the same challenge here and I'm not sure that we'll be able to survive it intact.

Unfortunately, I doubt there will ever be any lasting peace in Northern Ireland. Even though the Troubles are now part of history, the ideals and feelings are not. Every now and again some group or another purporting to stand for this, that or the other sets a bomb, shoots a Policeman or some poor joe on his doorstep in the name of a cause.
These Terrorists, and that is what they are, are no better than Al Qaida. They've just been at it longer.
I'm old enough to remember the Troubles at their height. I was minutes away from death during the IRA bombings in 1983. I have nothing but contempt for the IRA, UDA and any other group who thinks the cowardly act of anonymous murder is any way to further a cause.
Perhaps I'm biased, I'm English.

no winnie, you're not biased, i agree with you. there are alot of nuts out there that just want to see things burn so they take up what ever cause allows them to do it. those types of people end up hurting the cause more than helping. i am for freedom and fighting for that freedom if necessary, but random bombings and the killing of civilians is not the way to do it.
