The hunt for Chanterelle[pics]

I, with my girlfriend, decided to go and try to find some mushrooms today. Namely chanterelles. It's a great mushroom. Tastes good and is easy to recognize. The only trouble is finding them.
We checked few islands on the lake Saimaa and also some in-land places too where we knew there had been some last year. We didn't have very good luck...

The views were great, even though it was a cloudy day.

Our first find was this resting/bbq place the city had built on this island. My GF there is trying to give me THE nasty hand signal for being slightly mean in commenting her 'shroom finding abilities. I naturally mentioned that she didn't get the signal right. For some reason she punched me...

In the bbq thingy we set up a fire(the city provides logs) and grilled some sausages.

After a nice lunch we decided to get off the islands and the lake and head off to inland. There my mothers dog joined us to help, or something...

Or not... The first promising find was soon recognized as false chanterelles(Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca)... I was disappointed...

The fall is here officially. Nature is changing it's colors. Blueberry shrubs were awesomely red!

Of the fall tells also the victims of the autumn storms.. About 1,000,000 cubic meters of wood fell in the Asta(name)-storm...

This is all we we got from whole days worth searching. The weathers have been bad for 'shrooms for some time now. That explains the poor harvest of this trip. Anyways, we got enough for a nice stew.

The conclusion was that if we get few rainy days and then nice warmish weather there would be tons to gather. It's just that we don't have that weather now. Setting aside the poor success with 'shrooms, the trip was really good. Not too hot or too cold, great views and colors and beautiful company that actually can make fire and doesn't ***** about bugs...

Ours won't be ready for a little bit yet. Chantrels are one of six mushrooms that I pick in our area.

It is not the case everywhere in Finland either. Savonlinna, the city in which area the islands are, is favored by tourists, both in-country and foreigners. They want to be appealing.

I wish I had few hundreds of euros extra to get a proper cam... We actually had my GFs really good System camera with us, but she forgot to take the SD card with it! I got some pics from her from our earlier trips. Might just as well post here some.

don't look at it that way: any Chantarelles are a good haul. More is just all the better.
