A couple days ago i saw this at a hardware store and it was really cheap and i noticed that it had full tang construction i was wondering do you think it woulkd be possible to cut it into a drop point blade and sharpen it up with a file?

Guys used to make knives from those scrappers in the factory.
Worked out OK, they had some talent, and did make a tough knife.
Some pretty cool versions, were made.

I think that you could buy a pretty good knife for that kind of money, $47 bucks.
Some guys just have to make their knives, so I guessing that this would be some decent steel.

Don't know what kind of steel is used, but they are pretty flexible. Maybe a filet knife?

That is still $9 for a putty knife!!!

I have a nice ACE Hardware near here and I know that if I walk around the corner into the next isle I will find a real nice knife in the kitchen section for less than $10 that will not require all day to make, will hold an edge and has not been burned up on the grinder.

But that's not nearly as much "fun."
I think the quality of the knife might depend a lot on what that blade is coated with. I've seen some pretty expensive chromed things that crack to bare steel if you bend them too far.

I don't think I've ever paid $9 for a putty knife either though. Never had the need for it to last longer than one weekend repair job.

If you want to use a putty knife, hit the yard sales. They probably go for ten cents or less.
