FEMA is talking evacuations on the coast of N. Carolina.It's suppose to be there by Thursday.
I would guess the storm surge will be incredible.

Okay. Now, I sit back and wait.......... All of this may have been for nothing if this thing heads out to sea, but I'd rather be ready than not.

On Thursday, I'll probably walk through Home Depot and the supermarket just to watch everybody panic because they waited 'till the last minute and everything's out of stock.

Things should get interesting if Earl decides to drop by or come close. I'll try to get some ocean storm pics and pics of any damage that may occur around here.

Oh, CRAP! I've still gotta' pick up extra beer and wine coolers. Maybe some extra limes for margaritas, too.

It seem that we here in the great state of NJ will dodge a bullet. Maybe a bit snotty at the shore, but we are close to the PA border so should be ok. Have tenatively canceled the families trip to Upstate NY. Could change dependent on the forcast

Earl has not turned yet. Everybody along the coast from Georgia on up - please keep an eye on this one.

Nice. They just moved the projected track West. Some local forecasts now have the eye passing over Martha's Vineyard and Vineyard Sound. That's like, ah, 30 miles from here.

We're still at a tropical storm watch. That should be changing real soon.

I'll be going sailing early tomorrow morning with the doc next door. His 50' boat will be coming out of the water in New Bedford at 9:15 sharp. I picked up extra beer this morning. I'm all set now.

Lookslike inland here in NJ we will only have some winds, the shore will have rough surf. So it will be a nice time to get our annual Labor day labors done around the neighborhood

For you coastal folks....When one of these blows comes through the news always shows anchored boats bobbing around in roughs seas. Why don't folks take those boats out of the water or sail them some place safer? Is it just easier to let nature take it's course and collect the insurance money?

Some take them inland. Some take them out of the water. Tethering a boat with a double or triple anchor set on either the bow or the stern is actually a pretty good method if you are not able to get it out of harms way. It will swing with the tides/currents. Gotta keep the bilge pumps going though. I think that most of the damage happens to boats moored in marinas. The tide/waves compromise the sides since they often cannot keep up with the rising tides or get banged to death on the docks. Fenders will fail when they are bouncing around violently.

My union voted to go on strike Tues. ... hmmm no work now, me and 4 other guys I work with are loading up the fishing gear and going for a daytrip to Cape Cod tomorrow...
I always have luck right before storms hit.... and hey with no work I say whip them rods and wet that line!!!
