Thread: Heading out in the Morning

Default Heading out in the Morning

Just putting the last of the gear in the rig and will have the food packed later tonight. I am taking the family up to Council lake to meet up with my brothers family and some friends for a few days. We were going to head up to Strawberry Mt. but decided to link up with my brother instead. A little fishing, some berry picking and definitely some bear hunting.

This will be the first year hunting with my PSL. I normally hunt with my .30-06 but decided that I wanted to try something new. The 7.62x54r gives up a little in velocity but 10 rounds of semi-automatic gives a good quick follow up shot if ever needed.

If you want to look at it type in "Council lake Gifford Pinchot" into google earth and it will fly you right into the lake. The whole area in there is my playground.

I'm in the same mode. Just trying to get everything ready to take off into the Uintah Mountains tomorrow morning. No hunting but, my boys and I will be doing a bit of stump shooting with the longbows and then just a whole lot of relaxing whilst letting the Dutch Ovens do their magic.

Pic's would be super, if possible.
I really like the pic when someone is out and about, kinda like being along.......

Have a good time and stay safe.

We are about ready to head out to "The Place", check out how high the water got on my lower field, they planted beans this year, trying to get rid of the weeds that showed up last flood a couple of years ago.

Need to cut the grass and put up a couple of tree stands for the deer season.

Well, that 7.62X 54R should make your -06 feel like a BB gun. Of course, maybe the PSL is heavier than I think.

7:30 am PST and the second rig is loaded. Proud of my family. My wife and the two boys that are at home had the blazer loaded up in 30 minutes.

The s-10 was loaded last night with tents and furniture and firewood last night. All of our food, blankets, kitchen kit, clothes and cooler was loaded this morning.

Now we are sitting here relaxing waiting on my brother to call. On the way up we will stop off in Morton to pick up Ice, some extra batteries for the radio and then good bye. My wife and boys will be there for the week end with the group and then on Monday everyone will take off and leave me till I decide to come home. I am hoping to spend at least another 3-10 days up there. Definitely back earlier if I get a bear. Too warm to keep it in camp.

    BTW: I grabbed the camera.

I lost the disc that came with my sofware. When I got a new computer, I thought I'd be in trouble, as Canon would not give me another copy. However, the usb hook up still worked and I was able to copy the picture to my laptop. The only things that were different was that the pics all came in landscape mode. So, for portrait pics, I had to rotate them 90*. Other than than, the pics came across without a problem. I imagine it'll be the same with your set up.

    Good luck!

Good to have you back, but sad you didn't get to do everything you wanted.

Well the picture thing is not going so well but here is one that my brother posted and I swiped it off line. This is all I have until I get this thing figured out. This is what we woke up to every morning.

The original plan was to head up to Strawberry Mt. Then my brother told me that he and his family were heading up to Council Lake so we decided to meet up with them instead. When we got up there the camp ground was full so we zipped on over to Olallie Lake. Spent a great weekend with family. I caught 9 keeper brown trout. The berries were in short supply so other than a few handfuls to eat, not much else. I did get a few hours to hunt bear but not a lot of time.

I wanted to stay for an extended trip after the family went home, but my truck developed some issues and I did not want to try and get out of the woods with out my wife following me home.

The best part was the recharge. My wife and I both felt like we just had a two week vacation and totally feel ready to go.
