Arrow Greetings from the VA Blue Ridge Mountains

    Your Approximate Age
    20 years old.

    Your Gender
    Male

    Your Geographic Location
From a coastal town in SE Virginia. Currently living in the Blue Ridge Mountains in SW Virginia attending university.

    Your Occupation
College student. Currently work in a lab. Study academically and independently all facets of biology.

Your Prior Relevant Training (all types, such as first aid, military, firearms, survival, etc.)
Relatively proficient with first aid. Limited experience firing hunting rifles, semi-automatic rifles, shotguns, and handguns. Fairly proficient at firestarting, though only modern methods. Basic experience overnight hiking/camping. Experienced fisherman. I am very good with a cast net. Fairly familiar with edible plant species in my local area.

The Nature of Your Prior Experience (Terrain, Season, Number of times/years, and longest duration in Wilderness)
Hiking and camping trips less than a week.

Your Level of Experience (novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, instructor, etc.)
Novice survivalist. Intermediate fisherman. Advanced mycologist.

Your Preparedness Planning (type and level)
    Limited.

Your Interests and Hobbies (gardening, wilderness skills, urban survival preparation, knife-making, firearms, food storage, backpacking, etc. )
I am very proficient at growing plants and mushrooms. While Id like to have more wilderness experience, I have very little gear to begin.

    Your Membership and Learning Objectives
I want to learn as much as possible, and begin to practice what I preach; that is, the belief that humanity is losing its way as we stray farther and farther from a connection with the natural world. Id like to learn about equipment, and acquire what I need. Hopefully, I will begin to take long backpacking and kayaking trips in the near future. While a member here, Id like to be able to contribute to the forums with my knowledge of biology.

Welcome to the forums. Look forward to what you have to share from your experience.
I don't think it takes a lot of "gear", myself, so it sounds like you and I are on the same wavelength. I think you and I will get along splendidly. Drop me a pm if you'd like to talk more, or feel free to post your thoughts and questions on the board.

Hope you stick around to learn and share with us.
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. Helen Keller

Welcome to the forum, MM. It is nice to see more people from the Blue Ridge Mountains on here.

Are you in college at Virginia Tech? That was my first choice, but my path led elsewhere.

Welcome home. We have a saying around here. The more you know the less you need. No matter what level you're at now's a good time to start learning.

Welcome MM. I'm in the SE VA./NE N.C. area. Maybe you can teach me about something wild to eat (other than blackberries). LOL

Hey Winter, I use to skip school and go surfing at sandbridge, on the rare days that the surf was up. LOL
