"Your Geographic Location (small town in West Virginia, family ranch in Texas, or the the Lower East Side)"
South Central Massachusetts.
Small town with more woods than industry.
"Your Occupation (present and relevant past, such as military, technical, etc.)"
I'm a project engineer.Fancy name for a guy that can draw stuff on a CAD(computer aided drafting) and then machine the parts out.
Also weld and work a lot with pneumatics.
"Your Prior Relevant Training (all types, such as first aid, military, firearms, survival, etc.)"
I've known CPR since the mid-80s and been trained as a first responder.
I worked part time as a campus police officer for a while.Trained at the MA. state police academy.
"The Nature of Your Prior Experience (Terrain, Season, Number of times/years, and longest duration in Wilderness)"
I was a Boy Scout up till Second Class back in the 70s.Got a lot of badges and belt clips during that time.Even one for survival.
Longest duration in the Wilderness would be a week.
But,it was hardly a self reliance situation.
We tent camp by the ocean every Sept.
"Your Level of Experience (novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, instructor, etc.)"
I'd probably put myself in the novice to intermediate range.
I'm a chapter away from finishing Les Stroud's book"Survive".I plan to move onto other books,so any recommendations would be great.
Yes,some would say"book smart".But,I also do a lot of hands on.
"Your Preparedness Planning (type and level)"
Not quite sure what this is.I guess in case the SHTF plan.
"Your Interests and Hobbies (gardening, wilderness skills, urban survival preparation, knife-making, firearms, food storage, backpacking, etc. )"
I've been hunting and fishing these N.E. woods since I was 17 yro.
Shot gun,primitive arms and bow.
I've got to the point where I can get a coal almost every time with a bow drill set(store bought wood).I'm at the point of beginning to use all natural wood for my set and have been experimenting with different cortege and wood.
I keep a vegetable garden during the summer months. And when the crops are good and plentiful we can tomatoes.
I'm looking forward to some back packing with the family.
Your Membership and Learning Objectives
I'm very interested in primitive fire starting techniques.
But, learning all aspects of survival is my goal.
