Another vote for leather bedroom slippers (semi-hard soled mocassins). It gives my boots time to air out, not to mention my feet. Otherwise, a full week camping wearing Hi-Tec hiking boots for 16+ hours a day makes for some very tired, pruned, and stinky feet.

Hey there sigma pete. How about hiking on over to the Introduction Section when you get a chance and tell us a bit about yourself. Thanks. http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...splay.php?f=14

I have a pair of Crocs which are my favourite camp shoes. They easily attach to the outside of my pack and weigh pretty much nothing... I actually find them useful as well when on water hikes (swapping between boots) and also they came with an inner lining which is removable.... The only problem is that they are light pale blue ha ha. They cost £10 and they still have them online for this price. Google..."Crocs Mammoth" .

I only take my boots off to air out or dry out my feet. I sleep with them on. (And fully clothed, with my knife on my belt, etc.) I want to be ready in a moment for whatever may come.

No offense, but I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of Crocs. No one over age 6, and certainly no one who possesses a Y Chromosome (i.e., a "male") should ever wear Crocs, IMHO.

    Thank you! What you said!
I can tell you that they float, sorta, had a "person" wear them on our canoe trip, lost one on a "Portage", then was looking for some one to go down stream to retrieve it. (Hope he got it back.....)

I have a couple of pairs of clapped out Old Guy sneakers, (Velcro) that serve as dog doo picking up, grass mowing, camp shoes, slippers, water shoes, and when nessessary, do to gout, cut them out around the sore spots, so as to still have something on my feet.

Flip-flops for camp ground shower/beach shoes.

Depends on what I'm in the mood for on the particular trip. Lots of times, I wear a brand of water shoes called "Rock Socks." They have steel mesh in the soles and are real good on rocks. They dry quick, are lightweight and pretty comfortable.

    Default Vibram Fivefingers Kso

These are pure all around nirvana. Look a little odd at first (the latest in caveman ware) but they feel great.

Now these look like they would be very good. How long have you been using your B? Can they handle outside work and light hiking and things like that?

So, you run with them. How do you like it? I have just started to do some barefoot running and have been looking at something like these. I don't know if I want to spend the money on them yet. I want to try some huaraches that I can make myself first, and maybe some moccasins with a strip of rubber on the bottom for the same effect but with the ability to wear them to work.

I really love them and have run in them for about 5mi. The fit is really important--had to return 2prs. before I got just the right one. It's not conventional sizing. If you can try them on first somewhere it'll give you an idea. For some reason, keeping your toes separated makes a big difference in comfort.

Nike Air Rifts are a great choice too. (They look better with conventional clothes whereas 5 fingers don't.)
I have 6prs & I wear them with/for everything imaginable. They come in both leather and nylon and you can throw them in the washing machine.

So, do they leave "Big Foot" tracks?
I guess I would be afraide that some one would "get on the trail of big foot", and shoot me.

I actually found an ad for them in the local paper, showed it to DW, and she liked them.
Of course she is kinda into anything new, different, strange...............

    DW has good taste.
I'll just say this: once you try the air rifts, you'll never go back. And they are unisex--look good on both men and women.

Kickin around camp, boots are on. Sitting around camp and moving about in the central area, barefoot.
Then it really just depends on what I'm doing. wading creek banks and such, kickin around the yard, typically barefoot, but since I've made the moc wraps, I've been wearing them around a bit. While hot in the summertime, they offer some protection from sharp things, while still being very close to the ground and very quiet. I like them but they are hot.
I like the cheapo wally world skateboarding sneakers for clean open terrain, and if I can't see the ground there is just no substitute for snake boots, or at least good leather. (Refer to Rick's list)
My dad likes the cheap Earth Shoe slip-on hiker deals. I dunno what they are called, but they are convenient and light with good tread. easy for moving around camp and slipping off when you're gonna be sitting down.

I am considering a homemade version of the traditional russian felted woolValenki-boots.
A friend of mine had one a swedishmade reminding of the valenki, but with a kind of soft, footshaped rubber to the outside sole, and I got to try them on a hike. It was autumn and started raining/snowing a bit, but I was warm and dry in them, and it felt (!) wonderfully soft to walk in, in contact with the ground.

I have to have something relatively substantial on the sole and around the sides of my feet. In the dark, you never know what's crawling around on the ground.

Now I have the cheapo Keds version.

For car-camping, flip flops usually do just fine.

I've wanted to try those shoes with the toes.

But I hear they don't fit feet with longer second toes.
