Dental floss?

The other day I was flossing my teeth when my son asked if I would make a necklace from some synthetic sinew that I had.

That sparked an idea in my head. Why not carry a self contained box of dental floss in my kit? Besides the obvious flossing, the stuff is incredible strong. I think it will make the perfect line for keeping in my minimal bag.

It is self contained, has it's own cutter and most boxes contain 100 yards.

Lashing, trip wire, small snares, fishing line oh and dental care.

I have also thought about refilling an empty floss container with synthetic sinew and maybe another one with fishing line.

You get more room in the minimal kit if you take the floss out of the dispenser and wrap a strip of duct tape around it.

If you check at you dentist they often have "floss cards". They are the size of a CC and have 10' of floss in them.

I used some to bind primitive fish hooks.

Here's how I prefer to carry dental floss in my survival kit. I have a number of small ziplok bags of assorted sizes. The one I carry the floss in is 1 1/2 x 3 inches. I pull the floss out of the opening at the top of the bag and then zip it shut. I then can pull as much as I need without taking the floss out of the bag.

That is a good idea, pgvoutdoors.
I recently bought a bunch of those bags to store AA and AAA batteries in.
Walmart pharmacy, 50 ct. for +/- $2US. Right next to the pill fobs. Ezy Dose pill pouches.

Good idea about removing the outter case to save space. Kind the way I carry my fishing line in my small kits (could be used for dental floss just as easily).

Good idea but check the strength and slipperiness of the particular brand that you want to use. I previously tested Glide since it's what I use and it's no good for survival use because it's sooooo slick that it won't take a knot of any kind. The wax coated multi-strand dental floss my dentist hands out works just fine though.
