Default Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier

Not much to do with survival; I'm wondering if anyone knows the female vocal artist who did a rendition of "Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier," also known as "Buttermilk Hill," for the 1995 Discovery Channel mini series, "The American Revolution," narrated by Charles Kuralt.

I've been told this is a 17th or 18th century Irish song. It was popular among American troops during the American Revolutionary War, and has been recorded in recent years by Pete Seeger, James Taylor, and many others, but the best version I've heard is the one on "The Revolutionary War." If anyone knows the name of the female vocalist - or where I could download an MP3 (even better), please post.

RBB - Here is a link to the song and you can download several different formats.

Drawing blanks on the singer. You might contact the Discovery Channel and see if they can help you. The worst they can say is they don't know.

Suppose I could rent the movie from the video rental and watch the credits too.

It's an odd day when James Taylor sings a song and I prefer someone else's version, but this gal just has it down.

go to Discovey Channel's page and research it. Or try limewire.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

I think it is Jennifer Rose (Morning Will Come CD).
If you belong to ITunes you can go there and listen.
DO you know where I can purchase the DVD set of THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION narrated by Charles Kuralt?

    Thanks

It does sound to me like Jennifer Rose, but the version on her Morning Will Come CD is different (and not as good IMHO).

The show does not seem to be available for sale in any format. It's listed on Amazon.com, but if you read the reviews it seems that it's a false listing and is not the show with Charles Kuralt. The show plays on The Military Channel now and then, I'll keep my eye out and maybe cap it next time and throw up a torrent or somthing.

I emailed Jennifer Rose several months ago inquiring about this and finally got a reply. She says that it's not her singing on the American Revolution show. She said she's had so many inquiries about the show that she even did some investigating herself to find out who the singer is but never made any progress.

I believe it was sung by Traci Rae Letellie.
There is no greater solitude than that of the Tracker in the forest, unless perhaps it's that of the wolf in the wilderness.

very late to this party... I stumbled upon this forum while searching for clues.

Apparently the show "Revolutionary War" doesn't have a soundtrack. I found a path that suggests Diane Taraz is the vocalist. She has a YouTube channel which states the song is indeed of Irish origin and that it is available on her CD "Songs of the Revolution".

I googled up and heard this song..its a beaut...however (maybe due to my Malay ears), it sounded more like a country song...well since I am fan of country music, (from John Denver, Willie Nelson till Garth Brookes)..I like it!
