Default I just scored on assorted handgun ammo!

I was given a bucket containing assorted handgun ammunition. It was really a mixed bag of ammo; 2 rounds of 32 Auto, 1 round of 45 Long Colt, 7 rounds of 9mm Luger, 17 rounds of 38 Special, 260 rounds of 38 Auto and 94 rounds of 38 Super Auto.

I can use the 38 Special but I really have no use for the others. Can someone tell me the difference between 38 Auto and 38 Super Auto? From the dim corners of my mind I think I remember the 38 Super Auto as being a hotter round, but I was wondering if any of you know anything about the two types of ammo?

I belive they are dimensionally the same, but the super is a hotter load (as you suspect). Not positive, so hopefully some of our more knowledgeable shooters will chime in.

SR, don't you just love those "care packages".........."Say, you shoot guns, right?......I have a bucket of old ammo.....You want it?.......I don't want it around here ....It might explode!"

Might be able to fit up some "Moon clips" and shoot those .38 Auto and Super auto in your .357 wheel gun.

Thanks Hunter63, I never thought about getting some half moon clips. I will check out the links and look locally as well. We have an excellent gun shop near my office, if any one will have them this guy will.

The .38 auto and .38super are both Simi-rimmed rounds. They should have enough rim to catch on a .38spl chamber. I have used both rounds in .357 revolvers before.

.32 auto is the same, as well as .25 auto. Browning designed all of them with a small section of rim.

You can actually shoot .38 short Colt, .38 long Colt, .38 auto, .38 super, .38 spl and .357 from a .357 revolver. Nice guns to have around.

.38 auto/super will also fire in the Spanish .9mm Largo chambers. Some of the old Star Autos are selling so cheap right now in that chamber.

OR, a bunch of ammo with out a firearm that will shoot it would be kinda worthless right?
Maybe, just pick up something that will shoot it, yeah....That's the ticket....good reason....wouldn't want it to go to waste.......Right?

"Oh, Honey gotta go to the toy store, need to get rid of all that free ammo, you know...."

Either way, good deal for you!

Perhaps we should consider an "ammo for a weapon you don't have" swap. Then we'd just HAVE to go buy a weapon for it. I don't have a 105mm, by the way.
